Why do people think Al is a good recruiter?

He's not a great recruiter. You also aren't a good poster since you don't know the difference between recruiting and development. Your player "evals" are also terrible

We've missed on the big ones though, and until we start to get the Dalvin Cooks, the Sony Michels, or the Ermon Lanes of the world we won't take that next step.

And it's hard to win enough games to impress players like Cook, Michel, and Lane, if you don't sign players like Cook, Michel, and Lane. It's a vicious cycle.
Butch got top players before he won anything

And as we're constantly reminded every time some scrub from Pig's Knuckle Arkansas commits, Moss, Reed, Morgan etc. weren't highly touted when they signed. Which means Golden has to do a **** of a lot better when it comes to mining diamonds from the unheard of kids getting offers based on camp performances.

Golden has a good eye for Talent. Butch has probably the best eye for talent I have ever seen sans JJ.

Golden doesn't have the ability to develop talent. Butch excelled at it.

Golden sucks as an in game coach. Butch wasn't great at it, wasn't even what I would consider good.

Golden keeps the program PR worthy. Butch sucked at it.

Overall: Golden couldn't eat the corn out of Butch's ****. No comparison.

He's done pretty well, he just can't coach very good.

Look at who we have returning next year on D. Plenty of 4 star freaks.

Bush 4
Howard 4
Burns 4
Elder 4
Carter 4
Jenkins 3
D. Crawford 3
A. Crawford 3
Gayot 3
Mayes 3

Grace 4
Kirby 4
McCord 4

I respectfully disagree on this point.

Striking out, just whiffing on elite RBs in S FL last year was inexscusable. Striking out on elite S FL Dbacks this year is also inexscusable.

Name me a coach who got every elite S. Fla player. Jimmy? Nope. Butch? Nope.

Golden's done a good job recruiting. That's about the only thing he's done well to date. Those who say otherwise don't know ****.

I also disagree. Butch did nothing wrong from a PR standpoint while he was here until he left us for the NFL. UNC was different, but again, that appears to be an issue that was deeper than just the football program and running a lot longer than when Butch got there.

The difference is Butch and Jimmy did something with those players. Butch did it while short 30 scholarships.

Its 2014 different time, what butch found those wouldnt be so hidden today. So now fsu knows who to target n goes balls out to get them. Which means less busts, we dont have that advantage anymore.

I agree. Which has nothing to do with recruiting and everything to do with player development. Obviously AL can't hold a candle to either Butch or Jimmy in terms of player development.

It's not just what he does In recruiting that is awful

It's the talent and development that is wasted while the kids are in the program

He gets decent classes signed.

Gorlden's problem lies in what happens to all those studs once the get on campus and how long they stay on campus.

Bottom line: There is more talent on the roster today than when golden took over. And if there is one area where 'the cloud" was actually real, its w/r/t recruiting over the past two seasons. I've resigned myself to the fact that UM will not get rid of golden until after the 2015 season, his recruiting is the one thing that makes me okay with it. If/when he's canned after the 2015 season, we will have a cupboard full of talent (aside from DT). The roster will make this job more attractive to a coach who wants to win a title soon.

Highly debatable.

Looking at his blue chip recruits (4/5 star), how many have lived up to status out of HS?

2011
Chickillo - disappointment
Grimble- had to transfer

2012
Bush - has lived up when healthy
Flowers - lived up
Hamilton - now redshirting, complete disappointment
Howard - has not lived up
Duke - has been great against lesser programs, but average against better.
Kirby - has not lived up
Lewis - same
McCord - same

2013
Burns - jury still out, but should have shown more by now
Carter - disappointment
Coley - regressed... toughness questioned
Elder - not lived up
Grace - potential there, but small
Muhammad - early to tell, but didn't flash much as FR
Olsen - off team
Sandland - transferred

2014
too early to tell, but Kaaya and Yearby seem to be the only ones that will live up to or exceed expectations

Overall, he has not hit on enough top recruits to be considered a good recruiter.

Duke tore up fsu last week are you blind
McCord has been a great player
Howard I put fault on developing players and we don't seem to do that
Chick should be moved to DT just my thoughts
Duke tore up FSU? McCord's a great player? Howard doesn't have good hips, feet, and lacks speed. Great ball skills, but doesn't matter if you can't get there.

Duke had 130 rushing with 180 combined. That is extremely good against NC team. What do you consider good? Remember, he doesn't get to run against Al's defense.
