I can't believe that people have seriously believed Baker has ever been anything more than a glorified position coach.

Let me give you the name of the guy who's been the real DC all 11 games this year, including when we allowed 42 points to Va Tech: Manny Diaz.

Diaz just scapegoated Baker after the Va Tech game because Diaz didn't want to blame himself.

Put the blame on Lispy. Baker is just another stooge taking the fall for a guy who was always a vastly overrated DC.

Baker makes the in game calls. Baker has no business at Miami. This may be the same base defense but it’s not being called the same. Diaz wasn’t amazing as the DC but he certainly wasn’t this bad on a regular occasion. Bakers situational awareness is ***

Diaz never being bad? Look at this.

Brown fired Diaz after this and brought in Greg Robinson to run the D. The D made miraculous improvements for the rest of 2013. (Although the Texas O torpedoed at the same time the D improved, resulting in Brown's firing.)

And Baker basically makes the play calls that Diaz tells him to make during commercial breaks. He's a very nominal play caller.

The whole blame Blake Baker thing seems to be based off the premise that Diaz is a great DC, which is a false premise. After he gets fired as Miami head coach, watch Diaz not even be able to land a DC job. (And that won't be because of bad social skills like it was with Randy.)

At Miami! Don’t give a schit about a that Texas game. I’ve already acknowledged Diaz hasn’t been amazing as DC but Baker is a bum

If Blake Baker doesn't call the the defensive plays, then he's a great actor or has a bag case of tourettes.

Totally agree. Calling a zero coverage blitz look on 3rd and forever where FIU ran a HB Sprint play. DBs were fake blitzing. As they turned their head dropping back in coverage, the RB was running right past them. An absolutely dumb play call. Trying to run all these trick *** schemes when you have the offense in a vulnerable position. Just rush 4 and have the DBs tackle. I just don't understand what the ***** he is trying to accomplish calling these exotic defenses when the simple will do. When you have the offense in 3rd and 15+, you should accomplish your objective with minimum risk. This guy calls schemes that put the defense in maximum risk to achieve the same outcome. We saw it at UNC 4th &17, VT late 4th qtr among others.

It doesn't take a genius to call 3rd down defenses when you have the offense 3rd and 15+. Any armchair QB watching the NFL every Sunday sees what real pros do. The play multiple DBs in quarters or cover 3 forcing the QB to throw short, make a tackle, and get off the field.

IMO, Baker is part of a bigger problem. I am convinced Diaz is NOT head coach material. At least not at this point in his career. We've seen 3 times where Diaz has failed to prepare and motivate his team after a bye week against inferior opponents. That's a layup for any real HC. The biggest thing I see is that the player don't respect him. They like him, but they don't respect him. He's a players coach. Joking, jovial etc. They don't fear him. Quite obvious when Hill got a personal foul penalty and Diaz tried to talk to Hill. Hill just looked at Diaz and walked away.

Maybe I'm overeating, but there seems to be some systemic problems that Diaz has been a part of for the past 4 years.
