Why do Mario-led teams have trouble being motivated against inferior teams with coaching upgrades?

I don’t think talking about “rat poison” helps. This isn’t Alabama, and Mario isn’t Nick Saban. If you keep warning players not to “fall for it” or that “any team can beat you,” eventually they’ll start to believe it.

What this team needs is confidence. Tell them they are the best team — now go prove it. Play with swagger, dominate, and show it on the field. That’s when Miami football is at its best.

Do we have the same game plan, and once it is neutralized, are there no adjustments? Is it a motivation thing? I'm genuinely confused.
I don’t think it’s motivation. IMO it’s the brand of football he likes to play. Not every week will it be ur best but since it’s relatively conservative on O u can leave inferior opponents in games and if u make a mistake or 4 ur gonna have a tough time winning.

Look at the UF game it got tight in the 3rd bc we don’t get explosive plays often but “never have negative plays”.

I just think he needs to attack more on O to try and get some easy scores and explosive plays

Do you think Louisville & other teams don’t show up with the same mindset. Louisville has & has had swagger for years. Stanford is flying east with nothing to lose. Coaches are likely saying, “Hey, boys, knock off Miami & make some headlines. Sportscenter will have a new darlin.” Unfortunately, this isn’t a fantasy where teams play the part of the Washington Generals.

More reason we should have that mindset. You can tell UL was out there having fun and playing with confidence.

Problem is difficult maintaining same level of intensity week to week. Why did Louisville lose to UVA or struggle with Pitt?

Brother, I’m not saying we’re going to dominate every week. I just personally don’t like the “rat poison” talk or the constant reminders from Mario that any team can beat us. I know that’s not the reason we lost, but to me, that kind of message isn’t motivational — and that’s what this thread is about.

If NFL wide receivers made some of those catches their ******* linebackers did, they'd have been Sportscenter Top 10 plays. Just one of those nights. Bad teams allow that to expose you, don't adjust, and lose multiple games. Good teams use it as teaching moments, motivation, and it springboards you to play better. We'll find out which one we've got in 2 weeks. Obviously anything can happen in this stupid sport on any day, but we're not losing to Stanford. We're not losing to Syracuse. I'd be really surprised if we lost to NC State. Getting through this SMU game is the season, obviously. Win that game, you're going to be 8-1 and probably back in the top 5 with NC State coming to town. Lose and we'll see ya next spring.
I want to see the next few games to know what we’re. Was that a learning experience or are we overrated beating up bad teams that was supposed to be good and catching a young qb in his first start. I want to see an angry team going forward and some adjustments. Six games in I still don’t know what we are

Vinny throws five picks to lose a ring: "how can you blame that on JJ??"
Beck throws four picks to lose a regular season game: "F'ING MARIO!!!!!!!"
That was Jimmy's fault, Jimmy saw that Vinny was having a off night and still kept throwing the ball, instead of just running the ball and playing defense. MIami's wins the '87 fiesta bowl if Jimmy decides to run the ball and play defense

Mario could have the 2001 team and he’d find a way to leave you scratching your head a minimum of once. That’s just how it is . Butch Jr. I knew that coming in so why even be mad ? It’s in the DNA. Winning 9-11 games a year was always the projection with the occasional deep run. That’s why the UL game didn’t even bother me. I don’t live in a state of insanity , I live in reality.
Didn't bother you or you processed it and moved on significantly quicker? I fall into the second group.

Mario is an offensive line coach. That’s the problem on gameday. When either side of the ball is struggling or being out coached, he can’t do anything about it. He couldn’t help Gattis, Steele, Guidry, and this weekend he couldn’t help Dawson. If his coordinators don’t have it on a particular day, it’s just over.

Please find me a coach that’s very well respected losing this many games as double figure favorite ? This is 100 percent a trend with him getting teams focused for teams that are a non threat. I’ve talked to people that were on field and it was obvious the juice was lacking.
The amount of games we outright drop as double digit favorite is alarming. We aren’t asking Mario to run some gauntlet lol imagine if the schedule were less manageable. We would never win 10 games

I already had it in my head it would be a loss or at least a dogfight . It was on brand after what we’ve accomplished the first five games . Wwe couldn’t have scraped a more Miami outcome on a Friday night with all of America watching . I was annoyed some but with Beck and Mario it shouldn’t have surprised anyone. They’re literally the same guy , the HC version of a Qb and the Qb version of the HC. Nothing with them surprises me , good or bad . We saw glimpses of both at points in the UF and FSU games, like appetizers. Then got the entree for UL

Agree. And to be fair, I don’t think many teams do. But as dejected as I was on Friday, and am, I keep coming back to this is literally halfway through the year. It seems like more sometimes because we’ve had two byes already and we played ND, FSU, and UiF. But we’re only halfway through this thing.

We lost one game by 3 points and we gave it away four ******* times. If we can actually not do that anymore, god forbid, I like our chances. But I’m not optimistic we’re going to turn this around on offense. We have a 6 game sample of mediocrity. I just want to see some improvement. We don’t need to become 2024 going forward, because we can’t. But can we just start getting 30 a week with this group?

Man I didn't want to like that comment, but it's true.
After experiencing the Fiesta Bowl of 2003, nothing will ever come close. "I was annoyed" is about as fair a statement as can possibly be thrown out for that wet fart Friday night. I've had enough banana in the tailpipe (pause) moments with this team over the past 20+ years to know "it" was coming. Friday night prime time game was so Miami.

I'm just going to listen to more sad music.
