Why do Mario-led teams have trouble being motivated against inferior teams with coaching upgrades?

Well college football is an emotional sport.

Sometimes logos carry a lot of weight.

I've seen it a million times. If a BRAND isnt ready to play, the non BRAND is going to be ready to play. Also its when do you catch certain teams?

For instance Texas looks flat against UF as they disnt respect UF after getting waxed vs. us. Then they get talked bad about, show up and drill and undefeated OU team, then go on road against a BAD Kentucky team, look lifeless and almost lose.

Against Lousiville, first they are the 2nd best team we played this year behind ND. Brohm and coaches had all the intangibles on their side, double digit underdogs told them they sucked for 2 weeks, and Miami has the whole world telling them their the best blah blah.

Miami came out flat and unfocused, Louisville played like it was their Natty. Lousiville actually has enough talent to cause issues

Hence results.

Lousiville played much harder than we did.

We didnt play with the same intensity as we did vs. Notre Dame, UF, FSU.

It wont surprise me one bit if Louisville looks flat against BC this week coming off their emotional high.

i dont think this is a mario thing
i just think were not as good as we thought we were
all teams do this, the truly elite teams are good enough that thier b c and even d game can still win

even the 2001 team struggled with BC and we forget we were a drop extra point from disaster against VT also

we just arent that good enought where we can win when we arent playing our best

We aren't the number 2 ranked team in the country BUT we have more talent than the rest of the ACC where losing to a random mid tier team or two a year shouldn't happen. This has become a yearly tradition that I'm surprised that this is harped about in the locker room 24/7.

And yet, we were a 4th Carson Beck INT on the last drive away from possibly winning this game. This team is not that far off, if they can get their **** together.

Mario could have the 2001 team and he’d find a way to leave you scratching your head a minimum of once. That’s just how it is . Butch Jr. I knew that coming in so why even be mad ? It’s in the DNA. Winning 9-11 games a year was always the projection with the occasional deep run. That’s why the UL game didn’t even bother me. I don’t live in a state of insanity , I live in reality.

Yeah you’re right. Georgia and Ohio State don’t lose these type of games

Just because we have Miami on our jersey's doesn't mean we are the top school, and everyone else is "mid tier".

Guess who has the most ACC wins the last 3 seasons? Clemson? Nope. Miami? Nope.

Louisville

The flat disrespect to Louisville by many on this board is interesting.

Brohm has lost only once in his time at Louisville by more than 10 points.

That spread should have never been what it was. 7-8 points IMO. GT last season, they haven't lost at home since 2023 UGA only by 8 against a top 3 team in the country. Even then they ran for over 200 yards on UGA when no one runs on UGA like that. Then turn around last season and outplay UGA lose in 8 OT after getting screwed by refs.

Syracuse had #1 passing offense in country and won 10 games last season. Those were always tough games.

I've said this on this board for 10 years, but I'll do it again. I've listened to a lot of Jimmy Johnson in my life, I truly think he's one of the best football coaches to ever do it. Psychology major, by the way. He really knows how to motivate and coach.

He has long said that you can really only get your team "up" to play it's best game a few times a year. The rest of the time, you just have to out-talent the other team, and find a way to win. And I 100% believe him. All of this to say, I don't think this is a Mario thing. I think it's a football thing. I think it comes with the territory when coaching 18 to 22 year olds. But I thought the effort overall on Friday was ok. The tackling wasn't great to start the game, that's something to complain about for sure. But overall, the kids played hard. They didn't play very smart, which is becoming a theme (after not being a theme last year, so what gives?) But I think these are just the ebbs and flows of a long football season. There are 136 FBS teams, exactly ONE won all their games in the regular season last year. One out of 136. It's hard to win every single game you play, for these reasons.

Where Miami has traditionally struggled is not losing a game. It's losing multiple games once you drop one. Time to end that trend. The story is only half written so far. We'll see how the 2nd half of the book turns out.

They do lose them
Bc only truly elite teams can go undefeated
We are good just not that level
Which is fine and lousivlle is probably better than we thought

It is a Mario thing and please, respectfully, stop comparing UM teams to the 2001 team that had a bunch of hall of famers on it, playing a 12pm game in cold *** Boston near the end of the year every time we **** the bed as a crutch for Mario.

He has the most talent in the ACC by far!!!

We were playing at home vs a talented team in which most of us knew it wasn’t going to be an easy game. It never has been vs Louisville.

im not excusing mario
mario does mario things
i just dont think we are good enough to play above that when mario does mario things
as long as this is the only loss i think were fine, if we have another loss with this roster and schedule
then we fly the banners

3 remaining games in which the coaching has to be on point:

- SMU
- NC State
- Pitt

Case can be made for Va Tech because it will likely be a night road game in a hostile environment in which you must survive the first 15 mins and take that crowd and hope out of it. Otherwise, it will be a dog fight as well.
