I saw the AP Rankings and my immediate thought was: wow, we actually have a chance to make the cfp. Anyone have suggestions on how to stop thinking this way? I know we are not winning out, but the idea that there is hope is what kills me

Accept that you’re a mas-ochist until you reach your moment of clarity.

I remember thinking “denofrio is holding back”
Then it was “cmr keeping the playbook close to the vest for when we need it”
And last year “we will change the defensive scheme when we need it”
This year after notre dame I saw it. Then after the gators my moment of clarity came and I decided to watch more cfb than I’ve ever had. Every conference. I stayed up and watched west coast games till late in the morning.
It was so obvious that we are not playing a scheme that will be effective in modern cfb. We absolutely are not passing the ball at even an average cfb level.

And when you can’t do that you are placing the defense into a situation where they have to keep teams way under their average in order to win.

OC’s are too smart and the game is always called in favor of the offense. We do not have the offensive firepower or scheme to beat even average teams.
The cfb points average had been dropping with the lowest total average coming in 2023 at 27. However, there was a huge jump in 24 with Miami leading the charge.

So by default you can have a winning season if you can just score 30 or more on average teams while keeping them at their season total.

By looking at that fact you can realize that this team has the potential to lose at least 1 or 2 more games because we are struggling against average teams to even score 30 points on them. That’s a ridiculous state considering the money and time spent in recruiting and when you take the teams that are beating g teams we struggled against with players nobody even heard of; then hopefully you won’t be on any travel websites looking for an Airbnb in Charlotte.
