Changing teams comes with different problems. I would have been thinking get healthy and compete. I would get in there and out work someone. He has experience. He knows the system. There will be enough opportunity in fall camp to show what he has. That O line is a work in progress. Our big win was beating W. Virginia. If the coaches wanted to see someone else first, fine. The best player will win out in the end.

Tough to argue with his reasoning, although it might ultimately be misguided :

What was missing from the equation was the promise that he could regain his starting spot. Though deeply appreciative of the new coaching staff that had taken the helm at Miami in 2016, the role proposed to Odogwu upon his return had him questioning whether moving on would be a better option

“They basically said they want to split time because they still have the guy for two more years. In that case, I think my mind is made up. I was like, ‘I don't mean to sound selfish, but now I have to be selfish like (Hailemariam) said. I love this team. I've given you virtually nothing but my best every time and I've done nothing but work hard, pay attention, and do everything right I have to do. I cannot split time my senior year 50/50. I cannot do 50/50 splits my senior year. It means a lot to me. I'm coming back from injury and I have to show people what I can do to be able to help my family in Africa. To be able to give them a better life. To give my mom a chance to live a good life and get better medication. My family is in poverty in Africa.’”

Sunny Odogwu and his high school coach share a harrowing tale of triumph that isn?t over yet. - Michigan - Scout

Anyone who has **** to talk about Sunny can meet me in the bluelot. Kid has heart of gold and if you can't root for a kid straight from africa then kill yourself.

Can't argue with his reasoning - staff was upfront with him and he had to make a business decision. Will be rooting for him.

I am not going to say anything bad about the guy--because I have nothing bad to say-- but his logic for transferring remains pretty flawed. If he is/was an NFL caliber player, he wouldn't need to transfer from Miami. He was in a maximum exposure situation already.

He'll get much greater exposure playing his games on the West Coast when most people are already asleep.

Dude's a lying rat and a scumbag. Didn't want to compete. He had a pretty smile and a big happy personality here. So what.

I can't fault him if that's really the case, he comes off as a good guy who's trying to make the best of what he's been given. I wish him well.

Conversely, I don't blame the univ./staff either, coming off an injury with mediocre success prior, you do what you think is in the best interest of the team.

So they didn't promise him the starting job coming off a major injury? That's all you guys need to feel good about this ******* leaving us thinner at a spot where we were already thin?

I don't believe him anyway. He's a shyster. I wouldn't be surprised if he was the infamous Nigerian prince who swindled so many poor unsuspecting souls out of their life savings via email several years ago.

Had a few classes with him and have to say that he was a really great guy. Sad to see him go but I really hope he makes it.

Kid was a sweetheart, but he was also a party animal. I saw him out at some pool parties in March, let's just say he was indulging in the Miami lifestyle.

Come off it, dude! You acting like an angry ******. The guy made a decision that suits him, right or wrong. The coaches made a decision that suits them, right or wrong - they'll figure it out. If they were projecting him 50-50, and let him leave, I'm sure they know what they're doing and feel confident with what they have. After all, this ain't the fumbling bumbling Golden Doritos staff.

When he wasn't promised a starting position, he transferred. Now, I agree that's his decision to make but I'm not going to commend a guy who quit when he was asked to compete. It's not like the competition at tackle is loaded with All Americans here. Maybe the competition at UCLA is weaker than here? Maybe their coach promised him a starting spot? Nobody really knows besides Sunny and their staff. Either way peace, brah.

I am angry. I hate anyone who does my alma mater wrong. He made a decision that he thinks will benefit him, and I'm taking a stance against him that definitely suits me. He quit on UM, so I hope he fails at everything in life.

That's too bad he didn't have the confidence in himself to win the job outright. Yes, he made a business decision and what he thought was the right move but that says a lot that he wasn't confident he could prove he could be the guy. Coaches want confidence. That decision shows a lack of.

I truly understand. But we could all take heed of Mr. Gus Felder's wisdom. Harbor in anger and wishing Sunny ill is only going to harm you, my friend.
