Any hi
re is an upgrade to Dorito. You could have hired a toy chimp playing cymbals and it would have been an automatic upgrade. That being said, let's hope that with a talent laden area like S. FL he can find the players to fit his schemes and be successful here.
I thought that was the case until I read how badly regarded Diaz was. Dorito was beyond awful and should have been fired after just 1 year at the U. But Diaz seems God awful as well.
This is the DC job, but think of how fans have made similar arguments about our head coaching. When we fired Shannon we all thought the next coach would be an automatic upgrade. That didn't turn out to be the case. Even when we fired Coker most of us probably figured the next coach would be no worse than a sideways move. That didn't turn out to be the case. Instead we got a pretty massive downgrade from Coker to Shannon, and a bit of a downgrade by replacing Shannon with Golden. Although both Coker and Shannon deserved to be fired, we did an awful job at replacing them.
Therefore downgrades are always possible, even if it seems unimaginable at the time.
Also, if you had done your research you will notice that M.Brown forced him to change how his corners played. Manny plays a lot of cover 3 to cover for his fire zone blitz's. Brown made him switch to more man on man. Which if you don't have a decent front 4 is disastrous. His style of defense requires speed to cover the zones and areas he assigns.
This will most likely be the most talented and fastest defense he has been able to coach since his top 12 defense @ Texas when they actually had talent. So yes the hire is skeptical because of his track record. But no one can deny he is one of the most aggressive D coordinators out there which is what Miami has been lacking for 4-6 years. I'm on a wait and see if he has learned from the past and has molded his defense. That's what separates the great D coordinators between the weak that read straight out of a book.
Can he learn from his mistakes, put pride aside and fix the holes in his playbook and scheme to refine and master it. That remains to be seen. He has absolute full control of his defense (which he didn't have with M.Brown). Whether you like the hire or not there will be an improvement over the last turds based on scheme alone. Go canes!
He is planning on playing a lot of man coverage here. But the word is they may run more zone this season because they dont know if the cbs can hold up in man.
Also the secondary guys aint that fast. The fastest dude is corn and he runs a 4.54.
