On Hornfans all the UTexas fans think he was beyond awful. They view him at least as bad if not worse than we view Nix and Donofrio. Some people argue that he almost singlehandedly destroyed the end of Mack Brown's coaching career. On sixpackspeak (Mississippi State fan website although you can hardy tell that from the website name) Mississippi State fans don't view Diaz in high regard at all either. MSU fans are all glad to be rid of him. The one thing he might have had going for him at UT and MSU was being a guy with SoFla ties for recruiting. But that's hardly a strength that matters when the school is located in SoFla like Miami is.

Why didn't Richt bring Jeremy Pruitt over from UGA? Nole fans believe he was the greatest thing ever from his year with them. Pruitt did pretty well at UGA as well. Pruitt wasn't hired as Saban's new DC until almost a month after Richt was named Miami head coach. Richt had 29 days to hire Pruitt at Miami before Saban grabbed him.

Orangebowl I posted a long time ago his best defenses at Miss State and UT had a multitude of NFL talent on it. After His second season at UT(their draft drought started the following year) he fell because there wasn't enough talent there. The years he was good I believe he finished top 25 in rushing D and average under 21 points a game

I believe he was hired to coach our Defense.

And Donofrio was too. And I'm dead serious when I say that Diaz is probably less well regarded by Texas fans than Donofrio is by Miami fans.

They were all having massive laughs and the time of their lives on Hornfans when they learned Miami had hired him. It was very similar to how UF fan sites were when they learned South Carolina had hired Muschamp.

I'm not sold at all on Diaz. I was disappointed in the hire. Nevertheless I trust richt and I will hold off judgement till the season. One thing going in diaz's favor is he had never had an elite d line coach like coach kul. And in today's football pass rushers win you games.

Very questionable hire. Hopefully, Richt won't be stubborn if Diaz fails. Richt is a loyal guy, and he held onto Willie Martinez way past his expiration date as DC at UGA.

Jeremy Pruitt would've been a tremendous asset to us. He knows how to coach a defense.

Correct but he and Richt are like oil and vinegar. The bumped heads on so many fronts and I don't think he was going to bring that into his new gig. A coach wants so sort of control without having a high level of opposition. Pruitt isn't that guy.

yes online college fb message board consensus is always correct on predicting coaching success

I'm from Starkville and Manny Diaz was one **** of a coach especially when u get the horses up front. I wouldn't even listen to Texas when u don't have not one draft pick. He never had equal talent so for the math guys if he did more with less that means he should do better with more RIGHT?

As long we play an attecking d instead of that read and react crap I'm good.

UT always had great recruiting classes. I believe their defense did poorly in the NFL draft because they had been coached so poorly in college.

With Donofrio there's at least a bit of an argument that he wouldn't have been as awful of a DC if he had been coaching under a better head coach than Al Golden. Not that Donofrio was any good but some head coaches can make assistants seem worse than they really are. Diaz on the other hand was coaching under a far better head coach in Brown, which makes his defensive stats all the worse.

Any hire is an upgrade to Dorito. You could have hired a toy chimp playing cymbals and it would have been an automatic upgrade. That being said, let's hope that with a talent laden area like S. FL he can find the players to fit his schemes and be successful here.

Didn't CMR say in an interview that if there isn't performance even in the first year??

I thought that was the case until I read how badly regarded Diaz was. Dorito was beyond awful and should have been fired after just 1 year at the U. But Diaz seems God awful as well.
