Back in 2007, why did Richt transition to the infamous CEO" role of coaching?

Was there BOT or booster pressure?

From what i've read and heard, the AD at Georgia wanted him to make that transition.

It actually happened towards the end of the 2006 season, he was strongly encouraged (pretty much forced) by the AD to allow the OC/DC more power, and had to give up alot of his responsibilities to them. The Bowl game / last game or 2 of the 2006 season, Richt started to slowly hand over play calling to Bobo (the OC)

I think Richt agrees to it as well. Or else he would have left. Bobo is his friend and he def wanted to give him a chance to shine and showcase his ability. I don't think right cared about playcalling until he saw his coaches getting whooped by Defensive coordinators every Saturday.

Imo, richt knows there's a lot to eat out here with these weak *** defensive coaches. Especially in this conference. That's why he wants to get back in the game.

Dude is gameplanning for scrimmages like its the playoffs. My man done lost 15 pounds too.

He is ready. Watch him destroy gene chizik.

Mike Bobo was the chosen one at UGA and he did a good job as the OC. I like Richt and the style of offense he will bring but UGA's offense was fine under Bobo.

Richt probably thinking to himself "all thse mofos think I lost it. I haven't lost sh*t".

Exactly. Richt isn't hungry to get back into a game that he thinks has passed him up.

He's watching guys like lame sniffin take these bum coaches behind the woodshed. He's like, man let me back in the ring. I'm ready.

Drew. Think back. Richt was more of a shootist/gambler at FSU calling plays, and even early at Georgia. His teams gave us FITS! His mentor - Bowden - was a bit of a Game Day pirate as well - until Bowden mistakenly hired his son.

I think we're going to see a much different offense than Georgia had the last ten years, faster, looser, quicker, and just more fun to watch and probably play.

If he runs a fast pace offense we will do good. It will help the O-Line alot

Did the AD want him to make that transition because they needed him to focus more time on the "overall program" (e.g. grip and grins w/ donors)?

Was it more, "we dont want to get rid of him, but we need someone who can run the offense better"?

One of my friends that's a big UGA fan said it was basically that the AD said that Richt wasn't managing the program "as a whole" and spent too much time with only offense. What he meant by that idk. Could be he meant help out the defense, or could be things like arrests, academic, etc that he wanted Richt to put more effort into.

Probably more along the lines of what you mentioned first. It was obvious that the program slipped a little when he quit calling plays though.

Doesn't the SEC have a play clock rule to purposely slow quick tempo offenses down? Richt will not have to worry about that in the ACC.

They used to. There was an article about it, where Richt was quoted saying he wanted to play faster, but the refs intentionally slowed things down, so it was pointless to try. Bobo might have been a good coordinator, but he wasn't Richt. Georgia played differently when he was calling the plays. Maybe it was him being more personally involved, and that translated to how the team played for him, but after he gave it up, they came out flat, more often than not, for the big games.
