For 2007, here are the Division I football coach hirings. Obviously, this does not include anyone we "could have hired" but who did not, in fact, change jobs:
2007 COACHING CHANGES

Some interesting names. We weren't going to hire Saban away from the Dolphins. We clearly were not interested in bringing back Butch or Drunken Dennis. We could argue that Mario was unproven, but we DID hire Randy. Dantonio and Harbaugh succeeded. Who else should we have pursued?
Here are the 2011 coaching changes. By the way, this was a ranking of who was a good hire (circa 2011), and Fat Al was at #2. Franklin (obviously about to take the F$U job) is #12:

Here's another "early ranking" of the 2016 hires. Gotta love "Willie Fritz" over a bunch of other names. Fuente, Campbell, Norvell may all get better jobs, Frost already did, and Smart is killing it in Georgia:

2. Willie Fritz, Tulane

3. Mark Richt, Miami
Previous Job: Georgia Head Coach
4. Matt Campbell, Iowa State
Previous Job: Toledo Head Coach

6. Mike Norvell, Memphis
Previous Job: Arizona State Offensive Coordinator
7. D.J. Durkin, Maryland
Previous Job: Michigan Defensive Coordinator
8. Barry Odom, Missouri
Previous Job: Missouri Defensive Coordinator
9. Bronco Mendenhall, Virginia
Previous Job: BYU Head Coach
10. Kirby Smart, Georgia
Previous Job: Alabama Defensive Coordinator
11. Lovie Smith, Illinois
Previous Job: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coach
12. Scott Frost, UCF
Previous Job: Oregon Offensive Coordinator
13. Jason Candle, Toledo
Previous Job: Toledo Offensive Coordinator
14. Seth Littrell, North Texas
Previous Job: North Texas Offensive Coordinator

So, outside of a bumper crop of successful coaches in 2016, I would like to know who we should have hired in 2007 and 2011 (besides Butch, obviously, and that's no sarcasm, I love Butch).
Keep in mind, I am still angry at the lack of effort by our various ADs and BoTs, I'm just pointing out that we didn't "miss out" on as many coaches as some may think.
