Maybe because he was playing better than them? Idk why this is difficult to understand. In what world was it best for the team to play a 275 pound DE at DT? Especially when Bain went down we needed him at DE. He was a LB in HS and started as a stand up guy at WVU.
Barrow, Clark, Moten, Cook, and Scott should have been the only ones playing DT.
He definitely wasn't better than Barrow so he would have been the 2nd DT - so if we're playing our best lineup, as Mario and all coaches always say ("We're going to play our best 11 and shuffle them however we need to") and he can play DE or DT...Maybe because he was playing better than them? Idk why this is difficult to understand.
Like you’re ignoring the most obvious reason lol. Him being our RELATIVE best option doesn’t mean it was Good in the general sense. The coaches saw our roster in practice and said We need him to play DT. It’s quite simple really. Like it seems obvious Mesidor didn’t WANT to play DT so idk why you’d think he was moved there for any reason other than he took one for the team.
So ENTERING THE SEASON he was DT2, as you just said, and we had 3 EDGEs the staff was very confident in. So what is the point? Do you think if he was expected to need to play DT that he shouldn't have tried gaining weight and that it SHOULD be something you can just change at the snap of a finger to slim right back down to EDGE size? This is incredibly confusing to me, like we have guys that signifcantly struggle to even add 20lbs total in like 2 years, yet it should be expected for him to gain the weight and then cut it all to move to DT all within a couple weeks once guys start going down with injury at EDGE? Like even if it was 10lbs, thats a pretty big difference is it not? Like Unless you know for a Certainty that the staff didn't look at the situation before the season started and felt it was best FOR THE TEAM to have Mesidor at DT, then it absolutely Feels like you are definitely being way too harsh on Mesidor to me.He definitely wasn't better than Barrow so he would have been the 2nd DT - so if we're playing our best lineup, as Mario and all coaches always say ("We're going to play our best 11 and shuffle them however we need to") and he can play DE or DT...
So was the gap from Mesidor to Moten at DT more advantageous and larger than the gap between our 3rd DE (that ended up the starter when Bain went down) and Mesidor as a DE? It was 1. Bain, 2. Baron, 3. Alston (who was also hurt long before Mesidor moved to DE), and then Bryant. Moten at DT>Bryant at DE. Especially when you consider the DL is already undersized with 2 DTs under 290 starting and then adding a natural LB to the DE slot...
Mesidor is a better DE than DT and the 3rd DE was much worse than the 3rd DT. What you're failing to realize is he was forced to play DT and wasn't in shape to play DE until mid way through the season after he lost 5-10 pounds and got into somewhat of playing shape. He got too heavy in his time off and it wasn't his decision. Waiting on special cleats wasn't really the full story. I will leave it at that and not going into it any further.
12 year senior and not even on mock drafts...
