Who picked...

If that were true, ND would have 15 NCs.
If it wasn’t true why haven’t teams like Duke, Virginia, Minnesota, Arizona, etc been in national contention let alone winning a **** championship in literally forever.... Go back and look at the Champions and serious contenders the last 20 years and see how many of those teams where recruiting outside of the top 20 the prior 3-4 years.

Not really that complicated. A study from a couple years ago concluded:

1. On average, 5*s perform better than 4*s who perform better than 3*s. The criteria was based on minutes played, an assessment of their contribution to their college team (star, significant contributor, contributor, chump, transferred, injured, etc) and draft position.

2. Of course, individual performance varies immensely

3. Team chemistry and the right mix of players and picking the right hs stars is critical.

Well, Virginia is picked to win the Coastal this season.

The players I mentioned were to indicate how the physical aspects have become a prime criteria and I wonder how many to small, to short, etc. players get overlooked. Has nothing to do with stars. For example, I am pulling for TeCory Couch he is 5' 10" 160 lb CB that is probably going to start. Speed is often a criteria, well Jimmy Hines was great Olympic runner but couldn't catch a cold with the Dolphins, JJ referred to being FOOTBALL fast which is reacting on impulse rather then thinking too much.

Exactly. People just remember 5 star busts a lot more than they remember 3 star busts.

That's why people remember Kyle Wright so much.

Wrong, the only time ND was recruiting "elite classes" was back when the recruiting services either didn't exist or where not even close to what they are today. Notre Dame has only 0 5 stars on their team right now. They haven't recruited at an elite level in forever. You know which teams are recruiting at an elite level? Clemson and Bama. In 2006 when Clemson sucked their recruiting budget was 315k now its almost 3 million. That is almost a 1000% increase. Dabo obviously understands recruiting at a high level is what wins NCs and is doing everything he can to continue recruiting at this level. This current class may have the most 5 stars of any team ever.

Kids from the east, west,South and North back in the day didn't play much out of state like they do today.didn't have all the camps either.espn,Fox and other entities have the top rated teams in all regional areas playing each other .good teams are playing each other meaning their stats aren't padded against soso players.

There were years, even decades, when they never left the Top 5 national classes in the "experts" minds, and were often #1. Not in the last decade, I understand that.

So were our 1st championships all that impressive? Being we had the best talent in the country and most didn't know about them? Now every kid is seen and known about, the playing field is even. Now it goes to the best "recruiter." or the coach that finds that special kid that gets overlooked. Or the coach that has that gimmick offense that everyone copies years later- Chip Kelly.

Did the internet and recruiting services all but kill our chances? Sure as **** is making it a lot harder...

Yes, but the poster you responded to was talking about the modern recruiting rankings.

ND hasn’t recruited at an elite 5* level, but they have a tradition of good coaching and good talent development from a steady stream of kids falling for the schools reputation. As much as I hate them I give them credit for doing the most with what they get.
I would really love to see those pricks leave the independent ranks and come to the ACC Coastal. It would help an anemic Coastal and help the ACC... and it would allow the U to get some Irish *** every year... once again.

No question. I was just responding to the other guy because he was making it seem like ND was recruiting at a Bama level lol. I am 100% with you. I would love to beat them down every year and they would 100% help make the ACC that much stronger, plus bring in a ton of money since they have so many fans.

Absolutely... having them ***** here would be fantastic. Hope they follow the hoops team to the ACC

That or if they start having mediocre seasons... which is going to be tuff based on the things we mentioned. Jeez... how long has the NBC prime time party been going on, and when does it expire? In 2112.
The last extension was through 2025, but if they make the playoffs 1-2 more times in that time period I can see NBC renewing that no questions asked. I can see the NCAA eventually forcing them to join a conf though.
