Who is going to fly out to see the Cardinal? Stanford storm coming.

From growing up in NorCal (Davis,Sac)

Napa wineries (sp) are a great experience. I still have close friends that are in Napa and that industry. I can help with good game planning and ideas for ya. If you want that.

Where Stanford is at, is a few hours without traffic. And there is always traffic. It's the Bay.

But, awesome area, plan to spend double what you are calculating. See the Golden Gate Bridge. Be in the city after Napa. Hotels will be $$.

But...We all can meet up and hopefully watch our Canes put a whooping on Stanford.
Have you ever been to Central Coast wineries?

I am.

Hitting it back on the West Coast, the best Coast. (Bunnies).

Let's all do this and next season. Roll to Nor Cal again. Bay area is cool. It's Nor-Cal. Big time School.

But...We Canes.

It's on the table. May happen.

Wasn't planning on it but now you guys mentioning Napa, I may be able to convince the wife and make it happen. Now just have to find child care for the kids.

I’m a Napa veteran, this was the first year in like 8 I didn’t make the trip. I absolutely love it out there. Have made some friends in the industry and have an affinity for the small family operators. Really enjoyed Healdsburg the last couple times out there. It’s like a fringe benefit of taking these PAC teams into the ACC.

I hear ya. I recently lived in Napa for many years. Launched a very tiny boutique winery producing a Rutherford Cab blend and a Sonoma Chardonnay. Slowing down now after 18 harvests.

Not a great way to make money. But so delicious and so fun.

restaurants to consider if you visit:

Bouchon in Yountville. Classic Cali/French Bistro by Thomas Keller

Mustard’s Grill: Yountville. Over 30 years of fun and delicious NorCal cuisine.

Gott’s Roadside: upscale burger place in St Helena (the original) and Napa. What other outdoor drive in has grilled ahi and an impressive wine list? Don’t miss it.

Boon Fly Cafe, Napa. Must go for breakfast with legendary Bloody Mary’s.

When I grow up I want to be you lol. Would love to grow my own one day, maybe in Italy (wife's family lives there) Great list of spots, been to all except Boon Fly. I usually stay downtown and walk over to Oxbow and hit the english muffin bakery spot. May stay in yountville this time, just booked my hotel in Palo last night.

Yes, the English muffins at Model Bakery are unique and totally delicious. I also really enjoy Hog Island Oysters in the Oxbow Market next to Model Bakery. Grab a seat at the counter, order some oysters and perhaps their clam chowder. Each clam chowder bowl is made in front of you in a pan where the cook adds the clams (in their shells) to a spicy, thick and hearty broth. It’s an entree size bowl to remember.

Hog Island is the best! Never miss hitting there on my trips. I have never gone to the actual Hog Island spot, have you? I hear its pretty cool

Yes, I’ve been to the actual Hog Island and its sister restaurant, Tony’s, on the shores of Tomales Bay at Point Reyes National Seashore. Spectacular. You think you’ve landed in Scotland…rocky, rustic, cold, foggy and undeveloped. Eating freshly shucked oysters outside just yards from where they are harvested…drinking a beer or a crisp white wine. Bring your sweatshirt or jacket all year long…and enjoy.

Tip of Day if you stay in Yountville: for coffee, fresh breakfast baked goods or an incredible hot dog for lunch, stop by the Honor Bar gas station right next to Hillstone’s R+D kitchen. Yes, it’s a gourmet gas station where you can fill your tank and have fun too.

I rented a home in Yountville last year and had read many positive reviews of the gas station. So, I went every day at 7 for lattes and pastries fresh from the bakery. Locals and local officers from the Napa County Sheriff are there waiting at the door. Authentic local scene. Then at lunch, drop in for its famous hot dog. We went several times. You won’t regret it.

For those interested in going but the wineries aren’t doing it for you. Head the opposite direction and drive to Big Sur. On the way you can hit Monterey, Carmel, Gilroy (garlic capital), etc… Hearst Castle is not too far south from Big Sur.

That drive and particularly Big Sur is a beautiful part of the country
