Who do we hire as DC ?

#TeamDougBelk

He is going to have his fair share of offers I’d bet. He is young, he has UH defense playing lights out, highly ranked in several defensive categories, secondary background, learned under Saban/Kirby and was on Bama’s staff with Mario for 2 seasons. He is also a great dude, worked with him and he would have us in GA as well as TX HEAVY on the trail.

Mullen OC
Belk DC

I’m screaming that until hires are made, idgaf.
Agree with you 1,000% on Doug Belk.

Want nothing to do with that weirdo Mullen.

Don’t want to see Megan licking our players faces before every game...

She needs to just go all out on her fantasies & get it crackin on the HUB.

Yea this is belk first year calling plays and he has been good. He turned down texas and uga jobs to coach their DBs

I have a hard time seeing GT fire him after they are still transitioning from that triple option bullsh*t but if they do then yes, absolutely.

I thought so too but I looked up his record. He hasn’t gotten more 3 wins in any of his three seasons.

3-9
3-7
3-8 (playing uga this week)

EDIT - His buyout is $12million if he fired this year. $7.5 if he bought out after 2022. He ain’t going nowhere

I haven’t read through the thread yet, but I’m sure Muschamp will be mentioned.

His defenses are extremely overrated, I get that he’s a common name that everyone knows & he’s another demonstrative character that yells on the sideline & our fans always fall in love with that, but his defenses since going back to his Texas days have always been a whole lotta bluster & with average results.

He’s lived off his Auburn rep when he was with Tuberville for his entire career, but IMO is the most overrated DC in the business.

Mullen is getting a HC job with how many positions are open, don't fool yourselves
Oh he could get a G5 job, but sometimes these guys like to rebuild their reputations for a few years as coordinator then go for another big gig.

Everyone worries about who Mario’s going to hire as OC but i am more concerned about the Defense. Our Defense needs serious help and fixing.

Muschamp and then we can keep Trob…or maybe Shannon…anybody not named Diaz…let him focus on being a head coach

I hear where you're coming from on this, but he is one of the best talent evaluators in CFB, has a big name that will warrant the respect of recruits, and families love him. Him and T-Rob found a way to land Jaycee Horn despite Bama and Tennessee leading for him the entire cycle. Found DJ Wonnum out of Georgia who nobody wanted and turned him into a draft pick and a solid contributor for the Vikings right now. I can go on and on with under the radar guys he somehow found.

For us to expect to get a home run hire is not likely. We need someone that doesn't run a gimmick system & we can count on to field a consistent team.

The biggest issue I can say about a Will Muschamp lead defense is the lack of discipline the teams have with penalties. Outside of that, he actually did an incredible job at South Carolina despite being in a horrible position having to play/recruit against UGA/Clemson every year. Probably one of the toughest jobs in CFB. Muschamp just isn't who you want at HC. He's perfect DC material. The Wade Phillips of CFB.

Beyond the obvious, really need someone who can adapt and will recognize how to mitigate our roster deficiencies — which are numerous. Don’t need another smartest guy in the room, oblivious to our players’ actual strengths and weaknesses, who tries to fit a square peg in a round hole. Also somebody who is hungry and willing to put in the extra time recruiting — a somewhat rare trait for established defensive coordinators.
