Who are the "Elite" Recruiters on Manolo's Staff?

Miami finished higher in recruiting rankings than actual ranking every year under Al Golden. So yes, you can make a point that good recruiters can overcome poor on field results to an extent. There's only so many years you can convince top prospects to enroll with used car tactics though. Eventually recruits will see a lack of results on field and be turned off. Kids see momentum and want to jump on band wagons. Just look at last season. They went into recruiting season on a 5 game win streak and a bowl win after 2016. They started 2017 10-0 and had at one time, the #1 class in the nation. They signed a bunch of dudes on the early signing day and everything was sky high. They finished on a 3 game skid, lost out on a few of their remaining big targets and ended up with the #8 class. They started 2018 with a dud, never really put any kind of win streak together and kids were turned off. Maybe other schools can convince kids to come after terrible seasons but Miami has been selling used cars for so long, kids aren't buying it anymore. The only thing that is proven to work here is winning. The good thing is, they don't have to do anything impossible. A Coastal championship and double digit win season will almost guarantee a top 15 class.

Nobody is arguing for "just" recruiters.

Building a staff is like building a baseball team. Ideally you'd want players that can hit and play defense at every position. But that's unrealistic. So you say, "Okay, what positions do I want a little more defense at, even if it comes at the expense of the bat? What positions do I want a little more bat at, even if it comes at the expense of defense?" This is why CF tends to be one of your two worst hitters but one of your two best defenders, and 1B is usually your worst defender but best power bat.

There are certain coaching positions where you lean towards a technician. OL coach is an example. But you got to then makeup for the recruiting somewhere. This is usually RB coach, TE, WR, ST. Is there a point where their coaching can get SO bad that it cancels out their recruiting ability? Sure. Just as there is a point where a CFs bat can get SO bad it cancels out his defense. But the strategy for building balance still has to be there.

Exactly my mindset. I hope that we aren't over correcting.

There are obviously many factors when it comes to recruiting. Wins/losses, coaches recruiting ability, recruits family situation, bags, etc., etc., etc. I'm not nearly as well versed about recruiting as many here on CIS. It would be interesting to see what those of you that are plugged in to recruiting believe is your top 5 or top 10 factors ranked in order of significance.

I apologize, but I still don’t know why rumph can’t close on these CB’s? It’s really mind boggling... can anyone answer my question?

I don’t get it either, he was really good in college, has coached kids UP, he was part of the greatest team in NCAAF history and a first round pick. You would think he could sell them on all that but he definitely hasn’t produced what he should be. I don’t know him personally but I gotta guess it has to do with personality.?...

Same view here. Worried we are overcorrecting. And it’s not just recruiters I am looking for. It’s clear evidence that recruiting itself, including evaluations and process discipline, is a critical focus for this staff. Recruiting coordinator plays in here. This program’s life blood is access to the best local talent. If we don’t prioritize identifying, evaluating and recruiting local talent, in particular, we will not be a top cfb team. Coaching is necessary, but not sufficient.

I laugh at the notion that recruiting is about anything other than money, playing time, and winning these days. What makes someone a good recruiter now? Relationship development? These kids don’t give a **** about relationships.

Our top recruiting coaches right now are probably Banda and Simpson. Let that sink in...

Hickson seems to have some connections in Broward, though. Akron managed to pull several 2* types from South Florida while he coached there, and I have to hope that isn't a coincidence. Hopefully with a U on his polo he can bring in some talent.

As others have suggested, our WR and TE coaches need to be, at least, above average recruiters.

And here's the monster recruiter that we lacked. love his personal story, he is an orphan, survivor numerous foster care homes. a winner and a **** of a recruiter, plus he knows the position having it played at an all-state level. he was mario's right hand man for south florida. emphasis on "was".

Win and look good doing it. We need to win convincingly against ranked teams, and we need to consistently beat our conference opponents.
Exactly...winning will change everything....if we suck again all this ace recruiter talk won't mean $#i+....don't matter who we get....sfla kids will continue to disrespect our hat at the table...

I totally agree. If we **** the bed again this season, which I don't think we will, it'll be a hard sell to convince these kids to buy in. I'm cautiously optimistic and I think the potential of these hires are phenomenal, but winning will be the ultimate sales pitch to go along with everything else. It's common sense. I'm in wait and see mode, but I'm pretty hyped about all of these changes recently. I like Manny's choices thus far, and it'll be months if not 2 years before we see the results.
