Who are AD names?

Is there a reason for the Mack Rhoades talk? Seems like he’s got a good gig now.

I’m personally indifferent on Highsmith. He’d be much better served running football operations. I’m not sold on an AD with a pulse coming in and giving up the reigns to the moneymaker for this school. I just wonder how good Highsmith would be outside of football.

Give me the nerdiest ******* dweeb in the country. I don't need some gym rat meathead telling me how things were in his day. Give me someone who can assess talent and determine a good fit because he's exercised the muscle between his ears more times than you've lifted a book in your life. This is the most important hire in Miami's history. Let's not whittle it down to as something as simple as "aLpHa brO"

I have an MBA from Yale and I’m a Managing Director at one of the biggest banks in the world. Believe me, I know management and I’ve lifted a few books.

Highsmith is who I would hire. Personality is the biggest reason. He’s a natural leader, and this university needs a culture shift. He’s the guy I’d pick to shake things up.

He also has spent years in NFL front offices, which means he has contacts in the coaching world. He knows what a big time coach looks like, and if he calls them on the phone, they’ll pick up.

I know I haven't established myself as an insider but I've actually heard a few names that the board has considered, or kicked around. I'm not entirely sure.

-Berry McCaulkiner out of Iowa State is a name that has been thrown around a bunch. Certain board members seem to think it would be a good situation.
-Eric Shun out of Western Michigan was described as someone who has potential but may not be available when it's time (i.e. end of season).
-Hugh Jorgin out of Fresno State. I personally don't think it's a great fit but there are apparently some who want to take a chance on him.

I do trust my guy, although they may have just been names people were kicking around and may not come to fruition. I am no Cribby, so don't think I'm trying to take over the thrown.

You saying there is hope? The board has actually discussed names for a new AD?

Exactly. We need to shape the long term direction and focus of this program with a proven and seasoned senior executive like Alonzo. His type of experience and contacts to the NFL and professional sports in general is what Miami sadly needs. We need a long term plan and not just a next season plan. Alonzo understands the importance of player development as well as the importance sports provides to a university program. It's all about proven leadership and that's what he brings to the table. It's nonsensical that the University admin blindly continues to show no spine when they can and should hire someone like Alonzo who is actually interested in providing help and guidance that we have been lacking in for so long.

In all honesty I do think James will be gone. None of the sports are successful. Football is not the only sport - as much as we like to think it is - but it is the #1 money sport along with a distant 2nd in basketball and they drive all the other non revenue sports. Neither are successful. That’s gonna be the nail in the coffin. Once we have to start cutting non revenue sports because football and basketball are performing badly - he’s gone. Do I trust them to make a good hire - absolutely not. The right move would be to get an associate AD from either the BIG10 or SEC that has several years under a winning sports program. Just my 2 cents.

The fact that we can’t get one and dones to come to Miami is a disgrace.
