Who’s the most underrated Miami player ever?

CJ. Richardson and Malcom Pearson were a fantastic and underrated safety duo. I know the OP asked for individual players but I couldn't help myself.

Ryan Clement

All-time tough guy performance on a cold night at West Virginia (the Tremain Mack blocked punt win), playing with a bad left shoulder. Wasn’t going to play but Covington suffered a collapsed lung in practice a few days before. He wasn’t great but might have thrived had he not been the probation era QB.

Daryl Jones.

All he did was make plays when asked while playing behind Wayne, Moss, Dre.

His 85-yard PR TD to close a 52-6 win over BC in 2000 is one of my favorite Canes moments of that period. Moss had run back a punt for a touchdown a few possessions earlier, and Butch benched him because he didn’t want to run up the score. 45-6 was enough. Darryl Jones had other ideas. On the TV replay you can see Butch mouth the words ‘sorry‘ to the BC coach on the opposit sideline.

Bubba McDowell
Richard Mercier
Dale Dawkins
Mondriel Fulcher
Jamaal Green
Rod Carter
Scott Nicolas
Sean Spence
James Lewis

Are names right off the top of my head...
People really forget how important Richard Mercier was to that Butch Davis team. It was his hard work that really set the example for the O-Line that ended up protecting Dorsey. Him and Ty Wise were very, very important.

Love Ty....Used to bring him care packages from his family in Pensacola, on my way down to UM from Ft. Walton Bch.

best pulling guard Ive seen at Miami, he would be running with backs 50 yards down field. RM could've played for Lombardi!!

James Jackson. One **** of a RB and one **** of a Cane but was surrounded by All Americans and future NFL Pro Bowlers and Hall of Famers.

James Jackson is a great call. Was unfortunately in between Edge & Portis, and injuries hurt him.

Quote from Butch Davis - Butch Davis 2001 Browns Preview

"Except for the flak I took after resigning
from Miami to come here," says Davis, "I got the most criticism
for not playing James Jackson when Edgerrin was our starter."

Jon Beason

Beason is always my first thought.

Just look at this NFL career:

2007 - #2 Defensive Rookie of the Year voting (Patrick Willis won), #3 in the NFL in Tackles
2008 - 1st team All-Pro, Pro-Bowl, #3 in the NFL in Tackles
2009 - 2nd team All-Pro, Pro-Bowl, #4 in the NFL in Tackles
2010 - Pro-Bowl
2011 - Tears his achilles - was never the same

Beason was legit on a HOF trajectory and I almost never hear his name mentioned.

Lol....Butch LOVED James Jackson....but he knew all too well how good Edgerrin was.
