Based on the fact that the first time Devin touched a ball in a game at The U it was when the Gators kicked off to us......in the Orange bowl..... and Mr. Hester made a house call.

The 2003 opening KO return against the Gaytors was all about Devin just being happy to be on the field again.

The 2004 opening KO return against NC State was personal.

Yep D -Mo. Used to hang/party with all of them ...college days. Remember partying with D-MO, Garland Heath, Richard Washington , my boy Jon Dunlap...a young Mario Williams and another dl dude name Tank. That Nc State team had a bunch of s.fla boys...Bobby Washington was up there as well.
 
There is a story about DH as well about how a a scout from the Pittsburgh Steelers was either at a spring practice or summer practice the canes were having. The scout was there to look at other players on the team but when he saw how DH was moving through his workouts and what he was doing on the football field he asked one of the staff “Who is that?” because he was apparently very very impressed. The staffer said, “He starts in September.” The scout said, “Oh, he will be one of your starters in September? How come I don't see him on my report? He looks like the best out of the bunch.”

The staffer said, “No, I mean he starts school in September.”

People assume DH’s legend started his first year at Miami. It actually took shape before he ever played a game at Miami.

There were some old school people like “ChefCane” on the message board at the time (Grassy) that started using a GIF of an alien when referring to DH instead of actually saying Devin Hester’s name because his talents were literally out of this world.
Furthermore, in Devin’s first ever NFL game he returned a punt 82 yards for a TD.

Later that season he also became the first player ever to return the opening kickoff for a touchdown in the Super Bowl.

CaneinOrlando I will respectfully disagree with you. I watched the game. Below is a link from the UM Hall of Fame that refers to him taking the opening kickoff of his freshman season to the house.

There was a LOT of anticipation about DH arriving on campus as well as when/if he would ever be able to play for us.

Yup. Tank Tyler was the DT. From locally, they had Dunlap (my kinfolk) and Darby from Chaminade, Stephen Tulloch from Killian, Willie Young out of Riviera Beach and a bunch of other kids. Amato tried to build that program on South Florida kids in the mid-2000s. But he had terrible QBs.
 
Bobby Washington! Wow, that's a name from the past. He actually signed with Miami out of HS along with another stud RB from the area. Then there were some "irregularities" with his "testing" and the paperwork associated with it and he ended up leaving the program.

It was his 1st KO Return at the OB....He had 2 others the week before away against Louisiana Tech...
