Who’s the coach in this story? Devin Hester recruiting

Great interview. Well done by the interviewer letting Devin do most of the talking.

His recruitment was crazy. I always felt like he was headed to FSU to become the next Peter Warrick.

Good guys won in the end and his kickoff versus Florida was the best I have ever seen. Shot out of a cannon.

Devin has always come across as a really classy and humble guy.

One of my all time favorites.
The best interviews to me are the ones that are just talks.

It was the POS Amato.....Hence Hester going 105yds on their ***...and staring down NCSTs sideline (Amato)
I always thought the story was about a former teammate of Hester who played at NC State and told him that he wouldnt return a kick back to the house.

Looked at the NC State bench from about the NCST 40 yard line. This dude was something else.

His whole speech at this camp i was at was basically about choosing a school and not to even entertain a school that doubts you or says you won’t be good if you don’t go there. He said that was Chuck’s identity. He told everyone that he would coach them up and send them to the league and no one else could and would basically point out all of your flaws.

Meanwhile Miami told him he was going to be great regardless of where we went but where we played 3 of the other schools in his top 5 that he was gonna get his *** kicked if he went anywhere else.

Chuck Amato and/or Buddy Greene at NCST

Hester was a guest speaker at a camp I went to back in HS and told the story. Greene’s job was on the line I believe and he went on to be fired (supposedly because he didn’t land Hester - his defense was actually pretty good and improving while he was there)

Yep, I remember chesty Amato being at the center of Devin’s recruitment - Amato wanted him bad. I think Hester knew who it was or had a strong suspicion which is why that KOR against them was so great - looking back at them.

Welp; thanks @caneinorlando @JeddTheFisch & @TheOriginalCane

Ya’ll have officially put NC St in my top 4 most hated programs. They weren’t even on my radar; but now they’re going to have to battle UF, ND, O$U for the top spot.
It was during Amato's time at FSU that he showed recruits gruesome photos.....Another thing for Butch to have to deal with.....
*31 schollies
* Sports Illustrated calling for UMs Death
* No Bowl or TV for a yr
* Murder of Barnes
* In 4yrs create Greatest team ever......

I could see this...also considering NC STATE signed a few of Hester's boys as well up to Nc state. One of Hester day 1 friends was my homie /teammate in college we all kicked it with the Nc State kids from Rawvera. Hester is cool as **** and laid back. Them boys own that city up there Riviera Beach.

I was there at that game with Hester's boys. Still remember telling all my north carolina teammates that Hester is gonna get off.. and then he did. Jubilation. Lol I think Manny Diaz was on that Nc State staff. ..and they were loaded with south florida kids. I went to an HBCU in Raleigh down the street from Nc State those years

That cutback by DH is Legendary....

I always was under the impression it was FSU because Bowden would know that one player could cost him a national championship, but I am beginning to think it sounds way more like Chuck Amato, a proven scumbag. It just doesn't sound like something Bobby Bowden would ever want to have pinned to his good name. Chuck Amato on the other hand used tragedy at UM to recruit off of as much as possible. I am now thinking NC State or UF, with NC State as my #1 choice.

From the interview it has to be a coach at UF. Regardless, any grown man who would try to destroy a kid's dream over a recruiting decision is not just a coward as Hester appropriately uses the term, but rather a B*tch. Understand I don't use that term towards women or to mean a woman. It is exclusively for soft, punk-*** men. That coach could apologize every day and would still be a B*tch. That is in his DNA and nothing can ever turn a B*tch into a real man.
I really wish we knew the coach's name because I would reach out to him today to call him that. Never try to ruin someone else's future. No excuse for what happened to Hester.
And for all of Coker's obvious faults as a coach, he was a good man who stood by his player and made him feel wanted in a dark moment for Hester. Coker may have been too good of a person to be a really successful college football coach.

Doc Holliday was on NC State's staff at the time. He was down here convincing a bunch of kids to go to Raleigh. Went to UF with Urban Meyer the next year. I wouldn't be surprised if Hester is talking about him.
