While we wait for the CFP to ***** us and are reeling from our annual ACC ********, what are our thoughts on going independent again...?

would love to find a couple decent name schools that want to make a move on a new big east type conference

Put the crack pipe down and stop drinking the bong water.

Notre Dame has a sweetheart deal with NBC Sports. We SHOULD have one with ABC, CBS or FOX if we had an athletic director with a pulse, we'd get a deal with Nike and start looking around for a network to carry our games. That is an absolute to going independent. ND's deal with NBC helps them stay out out of Conference Play while playing footsie with the ACC in other sports.

I don't think it makes sense, financially, right now, without a network deal.

Besides, we're Miami. If we go independent, we're going to have to attract kids by scheduling the OSU's, FSU's, and UGA's of the world. We'd have to promise the kids marquee games to showcase their talents for the League. Hopefully, the financial return from a network contract can pay for the kind of NIL budget and coaching staff budget that can survive an SEC-style schedule.

Who would schedule Miami out of conference?

We are entering the realm of all in conference seasons by the Power 2. What would our schedule even look like? Our SOS would be trash.
This! Who would schedule a potential loss, to an independent when they didn’t have to schedule us anyways? We couldn’t put together a schedule that would be strong enough to compete for a spot in the playoffs. In this era, That would **** near be suicidal. What TV deal? If we did, go Indy, we would have to take some big dawgs with us, and work an agreement to play them every year to have a solid schedule. Soooo which big dogs, already in major conferences, would be willing to go rogue with us and give up all that conference and tv money they got coming in to form an independent league?

Complete ignorance to even suggest this. CFB is now dominated by 4 major conferences and if we were to go independent, we’d be left holding our ****s in our hand.

I feel you, but it simply does not seem feasible but staying in the ACC doesn’t seem feasible either. Its not a football conference. It just isn’t. Not sure how we can survive much longer in this type of filth.

I wish someone with deep pockets had the desire to start the first football only conference:

Miami
FSU
Clemson
SMU
Notre Dame
Pitt
USF
UCF
Virginia Tech
Boston College

Just have 10 teams, everyone plays each other plus two FCS games

In all honesty, this feels like 2000. The lesson learned that we cannot afford to lose. Ever. We know how 2001 went.

I just hope we have our starters in the bowl.

Notre Dame has proved that you don't need a conference to get into the CFP. Miami is a big BRAND. I think they could go independent, get picked up by a major network, and make more money than being in the ACC.

I'd be happy for it to work. Lord knows I've suffered enough watching Lacrosse schools beat UM at noon on ESPN3.

A few challenges stick out:

We would need a TV deal to justify the exit (like NBC and ND). The market seems over saturated as it is, and its not clear what extra sizzle UM would bring. This leads to the next point, regarding the potential customer base for such a TV deal.

We don't have the slavish devotion of generations of former altar boys and cirrhosis-ridden Micks like the Domers do.

We don't have a favorable social/political immune system like schools in the deep South or the child r@pe factory in Pennsylvania. That sort of ecosystem acts like an important buffer to protect schools when a conference will not. In its place, we actually have a viper's den of self-interested chodes like Le Batard and Luther Campbell who would sell their own grandmothers into Chechnyan human trafficking for a cover article in the Miami New Times.

Regardless---and this is probably the most crucial, fundamental challenge---such a move would require a degree of competence, coordination, and organization that does not exist at UM (really, in the entire state of Florida).
Wait….
Someone will buy my grandmother?

Only way you can go independent is if you have a television contract like ND does.Without thug you’d be stupidly trying to.
