Although a late round pick, My guess is Braxton Berrios. He is in the perfect spot on a team that will need him.

#2 I'd have to go with Mark Walton. IMO he is better than Mixon @ Cincy already but it will take him the season to overtake him

Mark is coming off injury and Braxton is at the perfect place for him, so I’m going with Braxton. Although, Chad could be the one.

Chad Thomas and perhaps Herndon. Their teams need them now. Walton will be the third back at the Bengals but will play special teams immediately. Braxton also on special teams.

Herndon.

Highly, highly unlikely to be Berrios. New England has Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan, Cordarrelle Patterson, Jordan Matthews, Philip Dorsett, Malcolm Mitchell, and Kenny Britt. And I'm not even including WRs on the roster who I think Berrios should beat out like Cody Hollister, Matthew Slater, and Riley McCarron.

Berrios will be lucky to make the 53 man roster if we're being honest. And if he does, he's probably 5th WR on their loaded depth chart.

Patterson is a special teams/gadget player and Slater is special teams too. Edelman and Hogan are locked in starters. Matthews probably wins the slot job. That leaves Dorsett who's done nothing as a Pat and is superfluous with Patterson, Britt who is a lazy teamkilling scrub, and Mitchell who can't stay on the field.

I think Pats keep 6 WRs with Berrios and Patterson rotating as the 4th guy.

Yeah, I see them keeping 6 WRs, too. Dorsett only played 5 games with them and so his timing with Brady was never where it should be. He's only a couple years older than Berrios and I'd give Dorsett the edge over him. Patterson has a decently sized cap figure, so I see Belichick keeping Berrios over him if it's close.

I think Berrios is going to have to put in work on special teams to justify keeping him over Slater, who is a special teams stud. Otherwise, he'll have to beat out one of: Edelman (not happening), Hogan (not happening), Dorsett (doubtful), Mitchell (doubtful if healthy), Britt (very possible), or Patterson (iffy because Patterson plays special teams, but has the relatively large cap figure). I'm just saying, if Berrios does make the team it's not likely he starts. Not this year.

Isn’t Edelman his real competition? Berrios is a slot guy in the NFL. All those other guys are primarily outside guys, no?

I try to remain objective about our players. There are dozens of more skilled WRs than Berrios. But Berrios to the Pats just seems too perfect to not happen.

Edelman is gonna be 32 and coming off an injury. Isn’t this where Bellichek trades him for great value and plugs in the younger guy to replace him?

That seems to be the recipe...

Dorset will most likely replace crooks role which is probably why they viewed crooks as expendable. In addition to that dorsett made that big comeback catch vs the jags in the afc championship. Berrios could take amendolas or Chris hogans minutes for sure. Berrios is far more athletic than Edelman, hogan and amendola

Could happen, but unlikely they'd trade Edelman post-Draft. They moved Hogan to the slot last year after Edelman got hurt. Do they keep three slot guys (Edelman, Hogan, and Berrios)? Yes, but he needs to play special teams IMO. And even then he isn't starting, which is what OP is asking. I think Berrios makes the 53 this year and starts next year for them. By then, Edelman will be 33 with a sizable cap figure and Berrios will have proven his worth. Just don't see him starting this year.

Good point. Dorsett and Hogan could be the outside guys and Edelman and Matthews are the inside guys. Slater is a fixture for them on special teams and they're excited about Patterson. Those guys should make the roster barring injury or poor performance.

But like others mentioned they must be viewing Berrios as a successor to Edelman (and Amendola). If he performs the way we expect then there's no way they let him reach waivers because he will get poached before reaching the practice squad. He's better than Trent Taylor, Adam Humphries, Brenton Bersin, Harry Douglas, etc....there are a lot of mediocre slot WRs that I've seen get snaps in recent years.

BUMP

So Edelman is suspended, Matthews is cut, Malcolm Mitchell is (still) injured and supposedly on the trading block.

Meanwhile Dorsett is seeing snaps in the slot and outside and Berrios is fielding punts to extend his value. I think Patterson and 1 of Dorsett/Berrios are gonna have a big impact.

Dorset has really impressed belicheck lately, he might be the patriots number 2 receiver to open the year. Feel like he’s going to have a breakout year and immediately replace the void left by Brandon crooks

I've been a big Dorsett fan since he was at STA. I remember arguing years ago with some clown on another Canes board who insisted Dorsett can't catch and wasn't good.

Brandin Cooks is on another level as a route runner and at the catch point though. Dorsett can replace the vertical-stretching element and catch some quick hitches against off coverage but I don't see him being a featured guy. Hope I'm wrong.

Plenty of know nothing posters on this forum. During past season many had Berrios being drafted as high as second round. What he did for us is appreciated. Is he an nfl player? Probably he will be out of league next year.

Yeah they are using him in the slot a lot more. Belicheck was giving him praise today and this week pretty much.

Top 3 on catches from Brady and when Brady pulls receivers along the side for extra work in practice Dorsett is one of those guys too along with Gronkowski, hogan and Edelman
