Which Week 1 Game Will Have a Closer Score?

King wins this game for Miami IMO, too little stock is being put in to bama having a new QB and losing lots of firepower.

We’ll know after the first drive, either way. If we go 3 and out on offense or our defense gives up a 7-play touchdown drive, then I fear our game will be a blowout.

We need momentum right away — it will give our guys confidence that we can hang.

I’ve asked this question before but I’ll ask again. What would you do? Take the ball or play defense first?

Take the ball. I think we have a better chance of scoring on an opening/scripted drive and grasping momentum than we do stopping them. Just my opinion, though.

To add to my earlier point, we need to find a way early on to get the team to believe they can go the distance and hang with them.

I remember watching Davenport’s documentary and one player pointed out how crucial it was for James Jackson to break off that long touchdown down the sidelines early in the game against Ohio State in 99. It gave all the players confidence. They needed validation that all their hard work over the summer had them well prepared to compete.

That being said, sooner or later, trends die.
 
Does anyone know what conference (doesn't matter, Saban owns them all) is officiating this game? I think as opposed to last year, Miami comes out hot and takes the advantage and leads the score at halftime. E$ECPN starts dialing up the phone at halftime after Nick scolds and embarrasses the officials a couple of times and we start to see the phantom penalty flags start flying against Miami in the second half. The $EC and ESPN will not allow that CA$H cow to be slaughtered like that...because if (and I hope we do) win it is going to shock the world and the world is very scared of Miami being back. We would burn the ATL down that night.
 
Clemson and Bama have been the standard since the playoffs came around. In my opinion, this is the year when the field catches them. They don't have proven difference makers at Qb which they have had for 5-7 years, just changing out parts and still chugging. They manage to do that because they would lose parts to the draft and SRs but other teams would as well. This year, the field closes the gap because of the covid rules. I see that game being a 3 point game, and disappointing to say this, i see ours being around 10-13. I have some confidence we can spring an upset, on the shoulders of King and Lashlee. But until we do it, im not confident in calling it a fact.

I will take no satisfaction if Bama is up 28-0 in 1Q as I'm sure I will throw something at the TV. Likewise, I will feel no shame in getting it wrong if Miami is up 28-0. Good for them and we all want to see that.

Based on recent trends, there isn't anything to indicate a good outcome for Miami other than hypotheticals, especially against a well-tuned machine like Bama🤮.

Back in, what 2017 I think, FSU thought they had a natty caliber team. Make a big statement on opening day and they get beat like snitch at a cartel b-day party. Miami vs LSU, Miami vs UNC, our Canes vs anybody to make a statement.

I can only think of ND.

Will this be our Canes W vs UCLA moment?

Or Saban makes halftime adjustments as he has seen everything. I remember that one year at hard rock we jumped on FSU with Walford going off and they made halftime adjustments and we couldnt hold on for the win, when the depth chart mattered. We have to play 60 mins. F the refs

I think we hang with Bama for the first few series and longer as long as we dont have an untimely mistake like we did against Clemson. The longer it goes into the first half with us in the game the more comfortable we will get. I think they outlast us in the 4th but we will put up a fight with some gimmicks on offense. We need to pick on Jobe, he is talented but he is always making mistakes.

Explosive plays on offense and turnovers on defense are what keep us in the game. We need both to win, in my opinion.

I get it, I know we have to play 60 minutes of great football because I know who we're playing. All I'm saying is that IF Miami starts to make Nicky look too bad, you will more than likely see some phantom penalties on Miami. Alabama is ESPN's cash cow, make no mistake about it and when that is true, the refs can always F you.

I like this perspective that’s where I’m leaning now myself. My first thought was to give to Bryce and Bama first and apply pressure on him. He’s still very green and if we can get to him early and force a mistake it could be big, that almost worked for us against Clemson and a poised QB in Lawrence

1000000% if we win the toss, we defer.

I've said a billion times that I really believe Bryce Young will be the best QB Bama has ever had, but maybe not Drive 1, Week 1. Go see if you can get a quick stop, get good field position, and get some early success on offense. Then win the middle 8, which includes getting the ball to start the 2nd half.
