The school instituted a hiring freeze through at least December on the Coral Gables campus, I think it was paper work issues to sort through before the Virus hit

Former FSU assistant coach Telly Lockette is officially on Miami’s football staff.

It was first reported that Lockette would be joining the Hurricanes as an offensive analyst on February 1st, but there was some uncertainty surrounding Lockette’s standing with UM because going into spring break, the final steps to adding Lockette were still being taken.

“That is a huge benefit to our program as well,” coach Manny Diaz said on March 6th. “We will be excited when it officially becomes official.”

Then, during spring break, the COVID-19 global pandemic shut down the sporting world.
InsideTheU can now confirm that Lockette is on Miami’s staff. His official title is: senior quality control analyst.

Lockette has been on Miami’s staff since March.
Why is the addition of Lockette a big one for UM?

Lockette has deep recruiting ties to Dade County. He is a former head coach at powerhouse Miami Central and was an offensive coordinator at Miami Northwestern, which is Lockette’s alma mater, prior to that.

While at FSU, Lockette was the primary recruiter for four-star offensive lineman Dontae Lucas and three-star cornerback Jarvis Brownlee. Lockette beat Miami head-to-head for both players.

Locket is also credited with landing star quarterback Quinton Flowers while at USF.

Lockette was the tight ends coach at FSU from 2018-19. He was the running backs coach at Oregon State from 2015-17 and held that same position at USF from 2013-14.

In this current 2021 recruiting class, the Hurricanes currently claim five commitments from Miami Northwestern. UM also has a pledge from four-star offensive lineman Laurence Seymore.
