Where do you stand?

Are you satisfied with Manny and his staff’s performance this season?

  • Yes. We’re 5-1 and it doesn’t matter how we got here

  • No. We clearly aren’t well-coached in a lot of areas and it’s eventually going to lead to losses

Most talent on paper....someone brought up the post where CU has way more talent then the whole conference. We have more then the rest but by very little and these games are close cause of that and coaching.
Agree that the talent gap between us and Clemson is wide. But the talent gap between us and UVA is also wide. If we gave the keys to our program to someone like Matt Campbell, we would be improved in every facet of the game. We are hamstrung by our underperforming coaches.

If you look at as a game by game basis it's hard to overcome homer bias. 1 loss was expected, 2 losses highly possible, 3 a disappointment. Losses can come from anywhere when you're not a tier 1 team. After Clemson the next 4-5 teams are talent wise easily within striking range.
I agree and believe every game is a toss up with the possible exception of UNC who I think is better then us. That said, there is the problem. We as fans believe we should beat every team on our schedule except Clemson but in truth are just an average team in the conference. Giving the fact that our talent is better, and that’s suspect considering how dumb we look at times, the problem is likely coaching. So for me, it’s come down to expecting every game to be a struggle regardless of our talent, with my expectation being a 6-5/7-4 record which is unacceptable !

We need to win to keep this class together. It’s partily scheme yes but we still have an issue with dudes as well.

Never ceases to amaze me that the focus is always on the negatives. This team could blow out an opponent and we still hear about the negatives first and foremost. Are there negatives to be pointed out? Of course. But we're 5-1 and are beating the teams we're supposed to.

Last night was ugly but it was a W. The team could have folded up but they hung in there in difficult conditions and pulled out the win. There's obviously things that need to be cleaned up and the rest of the season will tell us how much progress this team has/will make.

I’m not 100% sold on Manny as HC. But the offense so far this year is better than I expected. I kinda expected the line to be average at best. If the offensive line can improve in the future there’s really no reason to think the offense can’t become truly explosive. When you combine the issues Miami had recruiting lineman from Golden through Richt, it’s unrealistic to expect this to be a dominant offensive line.

Manny will show me what kind of HC he is this offseason. There needs to be wholesale changes on the defensive staff. Outside of Banda and Stroud, every coach needs to be replaced. Whether it’s recruiting or game day coaching everyone else is terrible.

All in all this is a top 20ish team with flaws.

You’re right of course, but struggling week in and week out against teams we’re supposed to beat has become intolerable. But heck, we’re not going to the playoffs anyway so yea, we’re 5-1!

It's been stated before - we're average. There's 3 basic layers of teams this year in the ACC (sans Notre Dame who's not a consistent member):

Elite - Clemson
Poor - FSU and Syracuse
Average - Everyone else

For the time being, we have to hope that Manny is able to just keep pulling off these fluke wins. We deserved to lose yesterday and people ignoring the long term are fooling themselves - we consistently play down to competition, look sloppy and unprepared (wait until we play NC State off a bye week), consistently throw out the same players over better underclassmen. On the latter point, it was refreshing that the staff benched a player in Cam who wasn't performing and threw a *** fit in favor of the freshmen. They then proceeded to put in Burns who's our 4th string RB at the most critical drive of the game.
UAB win 31-14
UL win 47-34
FSU win 52-10
Clemson loss
Pitt win 31-19
UVA win 19-14

So when you say Keep pulling off fluke wins what other fluke win have we had this year?

Also not sure how UVA was a Fluke win considering we never trailed.

Brett McMurphy dropped us from 11 to 17; not that it means anything, but the national media agrees we are nowhere close to a top 10 team.

Feels a lot like 2017, in this case the numbers lie. I’m glad we’re 5-1, but a decent 2-3 team might blow us out

were winning games by larger margins than we did in 17. just go back and look how close those games were. tons of 1 possession score wins that year. this year, were winning by double digits up until last night which was first real ugly win. we blow pitt out if not for the bad INTs.

The use of the word "satisfied" renders the poll useless to me. No true 'Canes fan can be "satisfied" with the way both the offense and defense have played throughout the season. I voted "no" because I'm not satisfied but that doesn't mean there hasn't been improvement. That doesn't mean I'm not happy that we are 5-1. That doesn't mean we aren't improved over last year's debacle. However, there's just much more work to be done on both sides of the ball before I become satisfied or remotely content.

Pathetic response here, Rome was not built in a day and Diaz has helped by using the portal and his incoming recruits are incredible. If we changed now it would be devastating. Look at NC and VT and who they lost too. We are building something special but that requires a little patience.

Vanderbilt scored 26 points. Total. This season. Y’all just talk to talk.

i love how they sit there and blast king. i do hope we dont get a transfer QB again and are stuck with perry next year or a green TVD going into bama for the misery of these fans. he isnt elite and he isnt perfect. he can play better, but last night his passing was improved from the week before and hes doing the things we need him to do -- hit your passes and make plays. the only upsetting thing is him not pulling those reads, but if its for the sake of not losing him to an injury, i dont like it but i get it. we dont have anyone else competent behind him.

Exactly. We have more talent, but it’s not by much. And poor coaching nullifies that advantage.
Ur right. Also when u have poor line play it basically keeps the teams even. So King doesn't look like the player he was earlier cause the OL is in his head. He's also a read one qb with great legs....that's what he is.

Edit: also I didn't understand the King hype just cause one good HC (Riley) said he was a top 5 qb. Coaches say nice things about players that they struggle to defend....and sometimes HCs say things when one player they continue to struggle with. Sometimes that one player can be just good against that certain team, or that certain team has a trash defense ......and that's OU in a nutshell. They may as well call every qb a top five player with the yards they give up weekly.

This is tricky u could be right but also can be wrong. Look at fsu fans thinking the same with Norvel and they r fuqed big time.

the issue is our fanbase thought we cn go at bama or clemson at their peak tomorrow. just not gonna happen. it takes years to get to their depth and talent. it also takes years of winning 10 games to prove to top tier kids that we will win consistently and that they will be the diff from a 10 win team to 12 win team

That’s crazy cause last week Norte dame played exactly how we played and moved up to 3.

he also dropped us last week following a win. we may not be a top 10 team but tbh no one is aside from the top 3. penalizing us for a win after UNC just got their asses kicked last week (he had them ahead of us following their L and after our W) is stupid.

they just talk to talk. last night was our first true ugly win. we've won pretty comfortably every week before last night. doenst mean were perfect in any of those games but they weren't fluke Ws
