Where Did Mullins transfer to?

Lots of tradition at those HBCU schools.
And they also give alot of former college/NFL African-American players what is often their first opportunity
to coach at the college level.
For us older folk who used to follow the NFL back in the 1970s and 1980s, there were alot of great NFL stars from those schools
because they had very limited, if any, opportunities to play at the so-called big-time schools.
Players like Willie Lanier, Mel Blount, Ed 'Too Tall" Jones, Doug Williams, Otis Taylor, Buck Buchanon, Ken Riley, John Stallworth,
Art Shell, Larry Little, and many others too numerous to name.
Also, FAMU had some very strong teams during the late 1970s, winning a national championship and beating our Canes to boot.
That team had some standout players including Tyrone McGriff.
Nice tradition at those schools and each of them have their own story to tell.

Last I heard he was headed to Alabama State. Not sure if he’s there or not now since no formal announcement

Considering you went through a similar experience at Drake with playing time and feeling overlooked, what's your opinion on Mullens career at the U? Obviously the timing of his decision was terrible, but could you envision him becoming a staple in the offense in the coming years or was a transfer inevitable?

As you said, his decision to leave mid season was terrible and did nothing to benefit him. He was seeing the field but wasn’t content with his role. He had the best overall ball skills on the team but kept having inconsistencies. I’m not sure if he would’ve developed into a star at Miami due to the amount of talent we have but he always would’ve been a contributor at the very least. I think going down to FCS can be good for Dionte to humble him and he’ll have clearly more talent than anyone he goes against

Excellent points, and don't forget "Sweetness #34" Walter Payton from Jackson State

Dummy. Had high hopes for him; but he could not get it together. He would’ve been so helpful this season and even showed the coaching staff why he should start. Get rid of all the Beta mentalities.

Alabama State has had a few guys play in the league. Notables:
Reggie Barlow
Michael Coe
Isaiah Crowell
Tarvaris Jackson

And for those that are into HBCU Classics or Homecomings, their annual "Magic City Classic" with Alabama A&M, while not as famous as the Bayou Classic (Grambling/Southern) or the Florida Classic (FAMU/Bethune) is a BIG DEAL. It is the highest attended HBCU event in the nation.

I'm a Miami fan first, but as an HBCU grad myself, I love seeing programs like these do well and attract top talent, even if its usually under the "2nd chance" circumstance. HBCU gameday experience is sumthin special.

Hope Mullins gets his head on straight and does well there.

Kicking myself for leaving him out.
Just too many to name.
The MEAC and SWAC were sending ballers to the NFL like crazy.
The AFL made a name for itself specifically going to recruit HBCUs when the NFL still had quotas on how many black players teams could have. It helped them bridge the talent gap almost immediately. The Raiders and Chiefs among others were loaded with HBCU players in the 60s and 70s.

The level of talent might not be the same these days but the pageantry surrounding the games and game experience is still top notch.

And despite what that idiot said earlier on here, players (and students) of all races are welcome at HBCUs. They're not stopping anybody at the gates for being non-black. My school had a white valedictorian my junior year. And everybody was proud of dude. No hate on this side.

I remember we had a white Jamaican kicker (yeah you read that right) on the team at my hbcu. He looked like sunshine from remember the titans until he opened his mouth and then he sounded like Bob Marley. lol

@MedleyCane, Isn't Mississippi Valley State University an HBCU also??? I think some dude named Jerry Rice played there awhile ago. You might have heard of him. I think he won a couple Super Bowls, got elected to the HOF, and is without question the GOAT as far as receivers are concerned.
Jerry Rice always amazed me. I've never seen a player make being great look so easy. I never like the niners, but almost everyone can admire great talent.

Yeah, I heard he was alright.
LOL.
I was thinking about the older HBCU guys, but your point is well-taken.
Also, while we mention Rice, can't forget Harry Carson, Willie Brown, Michael Strahan, Lem Barney and others.
Just too many to name1

I'm a graduate of Alabama State, I also follow the football program closely. Mullins is here, and doing well. Our university provides a family atmosphere and we are serious about football. We probably have the best facilities in FCS. Actually they better than a some smaller Div 1 programs.

Are you in the Montgomery area? Just curious. I'm in Montgomery often. Would love to meet up with a fellow Cane fan.
