I can't wait to see what it's like when our starters at the safety spots are legit hitmen. Carter and Smith are both guys who can come up and knock someone out of their cleats. I know Safeties have to be able to cover as well but as of right now our starters don't put fear in WRs or TEs. Redwine is serviceable and Quan is an All-American IMO so I'm not talking down on them at all but Im just anxious to see how fierce our defense is when the secondary is loaded with heavy hitters.

Give me one cerebral cover guy like Quan and one enforcer like Carter or Smith. It's time to move Redwine back to boundary corner, especially if M Jack goes pro.

Our secondary should have plenty of hitmen with guys like Carter, and Diaz minions getting there feet wet. From Corn on back I appreciate to see the cb's bring the pain too. If MJ leaves then it will seem like to me seems to be a force out.

Carter looks like he could be converted to a LB especially if his cover skills aren't as good as some others. Diaz used him inside the box to shadow running QB's. He had the frame to put on another 10-15 lbs and be a missile as a LB.

I don't know if either of them are true safeties in the classic sense. They are more rover/viper types that would be ideal in a 4-2-5 alignment. Both are essentially the 3rd LB against spread teams. I don't think either has the range to be the classic FS.

I'm not so sure about Carter but I think Smith is a good cover guy. I think he can cover a lot of field
