When do you pull the trigger...

I’ve always felt fans should be allowed to be critical even after a win as long as the criticism is fair and there is also positivity.

our WR play in general is not good. Pope has had a lot of opportunities to make plays and he has a couple catches but I’m sure even he would tel you he is disappointed by his play thus far. Harley dropped an easy TD on a perfect throw. Good teams don’t do shiit like that. The WR room needs to be better, period.

because of that id like to see more Mallory and Jordan together on the field. They are the best TE duo in the country. I’d also like to see knighton lined up in the slot some. He has the speed and hands to run routes and it opens up the ability to motion him into the backfield with cam or Chaney and present some looks in the running game that should terrify DCs.

Brev + Mallory combo was in full effect last night.

It’s ok to be critical but we are also only 2 games into the season.

No matter who we play at WR this year, we are not going to be elite at the position.

I give Pope, Wiggins, Hartley & Payton when available their chances to build chemistry and rapport with the QB and go from there.

The reality is this...two BIG IFs.

If we stay healthy at the QB position and TE position

IF we stay focused and put in the work.

We have a two (Maybe 3) game season In front of us which is Clemson, UNC and maybe Va Tech.

And unc and VaTech should be Ws.

Those other guys will get their chances to play because I expect a lot of our games to look like last night with two TD leads at half time.

Side note it sucks hartley dropped the TD but he made some other nice plays in the game.

I just don’t see WR being the focal point of our passing game this year with guys like Brevin and Mallory plus rooster.

It was more than one drop. It was one very bad drop, and there were at least 3 by the sideline that he couldn’t catch. One was the jump ball to, others were scrambles where he might not have been able to stay in bounds but he didn’t catch it anyway.
fair assessment, however he did progress from game 1 to game 2 and made important 3down catches to keep drive alive when game was still close. Way too early to talk about sending him to the bench after his best game of his career

Clemson is really good. We need to compete in that game. A win would be nice but to progress as a program we at least need to compete. UNC will be tough because it looks like they will be having elite play from the QB position. Other than that we should be strong favorites the rest of the way assuming we don’t have any critical injuries. This looks like a good team.
The issue I have with the we is concentration and fundamentals. Drops just can’t happen. If there were communication errors that could be attributed to covid and new QB and less reps....but when balls hit your hands and you drop them something has to give.

Not bench outright. I believe in letting these receivers play out the rust. Just like the rest of this offense they’ve played in 3 different offenses. CMR vanilla offense, Enos complex but predictable and Lashlees spread offense. Their athleticism will save them for sure this season, That being said they definitely need to rotate more. We have playmaking Freshmen’s, Payton’s a stud too. Keep the depth the same for a few games, have confidence that the O can gel and just rotate. If more drops then we start benching.

Either way, we better get ready in a couple of weeks or Clemson will tear us a new one on national TV.
I have no hope in Baker and his crew holding them to less than 500yards of offense...
.. it is up to Lashlee and King to keep us competitive. So whatever helps them...

I agree with you...but this trio of WRs have shown that drops are going to be a thing.

Wiggins has gotten better from where he started but Hartley and pope continue to struggle with their concentration.

I think we’ll see the other guys more as the season goes along.

I’m encouraged from what I saw with Pope last night. King really targeted him. It was a horrendous drop. This is his first real consistent playing time. Harley, meanwhile, has been playing virtually for 4 years. He just can’t catch, he has poor hands. Reading played a lot last night, he is built like a man already

Why would you drop Pope, because of one drop? smh
We should not drop Pope but if you think one drop is his problem then you’re out of your mind.

Harley can sit. That guy is a JAG. All that drama during his recruitment and look at him dropping easy TD passes.

Butch Davis realized that Reggie Wayne and Santana Moss were the future not Omar Rolle and Magic Benton. Diaz needs to reach a similar conclusion with Pope and Harley.

On benching the upper classmen WR’s?? Payton and the FR have the talent, think its time to see if they can swim. Are saban or dabo keeping pope, harley starting after last night??? Time to find the guy(s) that can get **** done.
When the under classmen outperform the upper class men In practice.
you guys really think the young guys are killing it in practice and then not being given the opportunity to play in games? That’s ridiculous. The young guys need to show what they can do Mon-Thursday and they’ll get opportunities in games, like Payton before contracting the virus.

We need to see Restrepo in the slot, period. I’ve been saying you need a player who’s physical and tough in the slot and can also pick up yards after the catch. Also, it’s not about speed, it’s about quickness and Restrepo is much better than Harley in that category. 99% of the time Harley catches the ball (if he does) the first guy always brings him down. I’m not bashing him because I know he’s a hard worker but let’s put the best players out there.

Listen the kid isn't perfect but he's not getting progressively worse. He was our best WR last night and you don't send him to the bench after last night.

Only an imbecile would keep headcases like that in the game. I’m not advocating pulling their scholly’s but they are letting the young pups get reps. Harley dropped a TD. For an upper classman that’s inexcusable.

Now they’re head cases. Lol. Ok.

Wiggins was open on the deep ball to Pope that drew PI. I'm all for getting Restrepo and Redding more involved, and Payton if he returns, but they must keep Jordan and Mallory in the game at all times imo.
