What would your thoughts be on Jess Simpson as DC?

You just said he’d never called a defense.

Now him calling a defense for almost a decade “doesn’t count” because it was so long ago.

Stop moving the goalposts.

Ive called a defense too, playing my ps3 years ago on Madden. Him calling a defense in HS doesn’t mean anything to me, I’m sorry. But carry on..no point in having this discussion because he won’t be the DC. You think he is a viable option, obviously. I don’t, we’ll just agree to disagree.

I played for Simpson at Buford when he was the DC before becoming Head Coach later. I was not surprised at all that he was successful at the college level as our team was run like a college program.

Oddly enough, I still agree with some of the posters above that I wouldn't want him as our DC - I'm tired of us always hiring an up-and-coming guy with zero experience at the position while we cross our fingers and hope he's good before we're stuck with him.

So him coaching in HS isn’t adequate enough experience for you? Shocking, hard to believe. You would think he is ready to stop Lamar Jackson and the Ravens after reading some of these posts.

LoL, desparation has set in, jess simpson might very well end up being a **** of a d-co, he has the ingredients to be one cause he understands the importance of the d-line, but at this point in the UM irrelevancy, we already got coach diaz in place doing OTJT, we dont need a roster full OTJT coaches!

I still think he'd do a good job, I'm just tired of us rolling the dice all the time.

A few things I'll say about him: He's very ambitious and I doubt he would stay here very long as he's been wanting to climb the ladder for years.

He's also kind of an *******.

He's also one of the most prepared coaches I've ever seen in my life. We would spend literally 2-3 hours after every practice defensively going over tape of our opponent that week, reviewing their formations, the types of plays they like to run out of those formations, players to watch for, tendencies, etc. I came into our field house one night because I forgot my book bag and I saw him still watching film and making notes at like 9pm.

I honestly would rather have an older, experienced DC who runs a traditional Miami 4-3 and a young innovative mind at OC, even if the OC hasn't called plays at the D1 level. The problem with a DC who hasn't ever called plays is that Diaz will constantly be meddling on the defense. If he wants to coach LBs again, then I guess I can live with that (like Saban coaches DBs). The LB play took a huge step back this year (I think Blake Baker is in charge of that unit), and looked better under Manny.

Simpson recruited better at Buford then he did in Miami. He is also sort of traditional in that his teams win the line of scrimmage and when they don't his teams lose. I give him credit for constantly whipping Calhoun though. Simpson would do much better as a DC in the SEC.

Guy has a lot of experience in college and with Falcons. CMD need to hear someone else on D side of ball
Baker, Banda, Patke..... can all leave today
CMD does not make it thru next year with out massive staff changes. everyone is tired of his routine
TO chain,Dancing on sidelines, pressers that sound like Al Golden#2........ FIU lost might have killed his shot with Miami
he has lost fan base. outside of BOT and AD group who wants CMD ?
Exactly, Diaz is too much of an egg head who's too concerned with trying to reinvent the wheel. I want someone who's going to lineup and play football tough hardnose football. The defense needs as much attention as the offense.

I actually wouldn’t mind giving him a shot if he ran his own defense and not manny’s gimmicky stuff

I wouldn't want him as a first time DC either.

But you have to admit he's a LOT more qualified to be a DC or co-DC than our bartender GA friend Mr Panda. He has zero experience anywhere else besides right inside Manny's armpit.

Sure, I agree w that but that isn’t saying much honestly. Banda probably wouldn’t be able to get a P5 job if he were to be let go tomorrow.

I'd rather have this guy. He's a Chris Klieman disciple. Klieman, a guy who's rather quietly turned in a dam good first season at Kansas State. Entz as the understudy knows how to win and the quality of his defenses speaks for itself. I don't know about you guys but two national titles and this defensive resume is speaking me.
