Is how this team comes out of the gate. To me, if you're a good signal caller on offense, you get into your groove early.
Last year in the first quarter, this team managed to score 3 points in two games. They scored 7 and 10 in two others. The high and only other time they scored more than three was 14.
What that tells me is that teams already knew what we were going to do and how to stop us. How many of our first quarter points were generated by defensive turnovers, the one area the defense excelled at?
The second quarter wasn't great either offensively. Toss in our 3rd down conversion percentage and its apparent most teams outcoached is early in games. It often set us back and we had to come back.
We were decent in the second half, some obvious exceptions. IMHO, it's easier to make halftime adjustments as the team in the lead is going to generally continue what's working to that point.
My question is I wonder if it's just poor planning, basically our coaches suck at it. Is it instead a pigheaded approach that this is what we do and we're just going to keep doing it until it works? This is a trend with this staff, one that should've been easily avoided with the way we were getting turnovers early last year.
This last game, we were beat physically. I think part was that LSU is just a more physical team, but combined with knowing what we're going to do, that makes them look even more dominant. Defensively, they neutralized our ends and if not for early season offensive jitters, I feel it would've been uglier.
Final thought, why in the **** is our passing game basically downfield and out on the sidelines? Your QB is inaccurate to say the least and the longer your throws, the less likely it's a completion. There's so much wrong with this offense that it isn't even funny. We have the receivers to short gain our *** down the field, but we try to go long every play. It's madness and makes no sense.
