Including the buyout paid to temple to get Manny back to UM for the 17 days he was gone, …. in the past three years, UM has spent over $16.1 Million on Manny Diaz.

Against Power 5 teams, he has 11 wins in he 2 1/4 seasons he has been head coach
That works out to $1.46 Million for each of the 11 wins.

To compare, over the same time period, Nick Saban has been paid $851,000 per win over power 5 teams.

Who says UM is cheap? They clearly are outspending Alabama.

lol I am assuming this is sarcasm? Also even at those numbers Diaz is a bargain. Forget the buyout, even if we were paying him 5.3 mil a year, we still would not be in the top 13 of highest paid coaches. He is still overpaid for the results we have but his salary aint breaking the CFB bank.

Colin, for better and for worse is actually a small Cane fan,. Irritating voice, but Actually knows CFL is waaaay more fun when the Canes are good. We are like the Darth Vader of college football.

For now we just keep hiring turds.

UM has bread they just scared to pony up cause they themselves are unsure of their own hires. They get swindled in those interview rooms and let their emotions get in the way of making the best hire

Remember that time some of us said we needed a good coach, not just one that can relate to players? Remember how we were told Manny would kill it here because he knows UM and he'll recruit well? Forget that he can't coach teams up, he would bring in talent to win at a high level, because ****, even Larry Coker did that! Problem is, Larry Coker inherited a team that was full of men coached by Butch Davis for years. We were told Miami needed a Miami guy, because the young men down here need a Miami guy to show them what Miami was all about, and some boring old dude just can't relate to these kids down here.

I'll say it again, and maybe this time people will get it through their orange and green skulls. We need a proven coach that can instil discipline and fundamentals. I don't care if he's 68 years old and from Iowa. I don't care if the "kids" can relate to him. ****, I hope they can't! Why? Because I don't want them comfortable. I don't want them all buddy buddy with the coach. I don't want them to be able to relate to a man who is vastly more mature and experienced than them. I want them to RESPECT him. I want them to FEAR him. I want them to LEARN from him. So please, for the love of God, let's forget everything we've been fed about "relating to kids". F that.

you mean mandy's team pool and pizza parties aren't the right idea ?

More importantly, he has cost Miami football its dignity. That is priceless.

This, my man.

I haven't cranked the numbers but getting to the playoff once and all of the direct and indirect benefits of that (recruiting/fundaraising/more winning seasons/etc) would make up for Mani buyout (which isn't much) another coach's buyout (let's say Mario's 9m) and then a new staff - another 10m+. I think the break even is about 5 years but that's back of the envelope math. Basically, hire someone like Mario, get to the playoff once in the next 4-5 years and you've broken even on the buyout monies.

We need someone who can run the program and develop players. With that will come wins. With wins will come recruits.

Add in attendance increases, clothing sales directly to the university. Indirectly but substantially would be NIL sponsorships which would offset bag games from the big boys.

Also, the university benefits from attracting better students. My student literally chose Miami because he grew up watching games. His freshman year was 2018 after the 2017 season. The kid turned down his Academy appointment and better academic schools to go here.

There was one analyst who flat out stated Miami is a sleeping giant if it ever got its act together. Just fucquing morons making decisions when the business decisions are not that hard. Yes, there are no guarantees, but you can mitigate your downside risk.

Over 10 million dollars for just Mario and that’s not including staff on top.
Where is this 10 mil number coming from? Saban doesn't even make that much money, although it's not far off. I will say however, there is hidden money lost in making the Diaz hire and not Mario. We could have had Mario at around $4 mil back in 2019, but now that number is certainly higher. Who would have known that bad hires end up costing more than good hires.

We've had NFL-grade Head Coaches. Schnellenberger, Johnson, Erickson, Davis.

One's passed away, JJ is done with coaching, Erickson is out - but the one that worked under JJ, evaluated and recruited wide open for JJ, who's team was handed over to Erickson - is Butch.

He somehow managed to beat UM while building a team at UNC, and while at FIU - managed to outcoach and win as well. With inferior talent and players.

Same exact age as Saban - and he's proven himself at UM already.

He's a disciplinarian - I thought once he was going to strangle Sebastian in the end zone. Players respected him, he coached them up, developed them, and they were in essence - self motivated and self disciplined - ask Ed Reed. Clappy didn't coach.

Butch assembled the greatest college football team of all time.

I'd ask him what he needs - $$$ to assemble top coordinators. He can do the rest. If given a bit of time before the end-of-season coaching firings and scrambles - along with recruit confusion - he could hit the ground running and maintain a really good recruiting class with "I've been there, and I've done that, and I'll do it again - just need you. I recruited and developed the best college team ever assembled - fact. You come to UM, and you'll be a National Championship contender - I guarantee - and you'll be best prepared for the NFL by the time you leave."

Mac at UNC did well, went away to Texas - that was a disaster - and he returned to UNC - where he's done very well.

Some people belong in certain environments. Butch can take South Florida talent and gives it discipline and development to create a powerful team and build up the program in the process.

Or we can take another WAG.

Wild-Assed-Guess. Which hasn't worked out so well.
