What makes YOU feel American

Yesterday, swimming across the mile-wide Peace River during the July 4th Freedom Swim in Punta Gorda. My 30th time in 35 years. The best Independence Day tradition I know of in 'Merica

Authorities have tried to stop it for safety reasons. But there's never been a single problem of any kind from lightning, bull sharks (I saw one during last year's swim), or drownings in 35 years. So the local authorities finally stopped trying to stop it (it's very loosely organized) and just send out the marine fire and police boats to keep an eye on it.

Trail-boats tend to the swimmers, and some years you can drink beer (as well as water) all the way across that strangers provide. Some swim hard—like high school swim teamers—but most dog paddle and socialize. On a great weather day there may be more than 100 swimmers and twice that in boats and kayaks—on a called-for bad weather day like yesterday, only 40 or so of us.

Don't see a single U being thrown up there, but my eyes are getting old.

When we’re returning from calls and stop at grocery store for lunch/dinner and people try to buy it for us because of how thankful they are to have us. We obviously are not allowed to let you do that but the thought of it always gives me a little more faith in this great experiment known as America.

Where do you live? Maryland?
Cumberland, my city is connected with Miami, we had some older foosball players go there back in 58ish I believe, Phil Geatz was the name, they opened a restaurant and had Miami memorabilia on the walls, including a Maryland license plate the said Sebastian, flags with Sebastian on them. We have a following of Miami up here, there’s another poster on here that lives in the same city as me. So, I did some research and we had a running back by the name of Van Parsons also from my city play for Miami in the early 60s. I knew there were a couple, now my wife’s high school had 2 guys go to Georgia and play as freshman, Shannon Stevens and Randy Wilford, those guys were outstanding players, but Steven’s fell into drugs and then went to prison and not sure what happened the Wilford.

I'll go first.

- Filling out the NCAA March Madness Bracket

- Watching The Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest

- Watching Lee Corso put on the Sebastian the Ibis Mascot Head

- Tailgating in the parking lot at Hard Rock Stadium, blasting the CanesInSight Podcast

- Cold-weather football games

- The sound of football pads popping

- Hearing the Fansville commercial play on repeat on ESPN

- The Daytona 500

Let's hear yours!
How about the national anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance and the good old-fashioned American 🇺🇸

To live in a country that is "of the people, for the people and by the people"...and hopes that the PEOPLE will do what is necessary to make sure it stays that way!

deposing of foreign regimes whether they like it or not.
Im interested in these depositions of Manuel Noriega and Hussein. I like picturing Alan Dershowitz and F. Lee Bailey on one side of a table with cucumber water pitchers in the middle and Ali Khamenei on the other with Gerald Shargel representing

I know some of them would be pro Israel pretty quickly.

Israel's affairs...also very America.

**** yeah.

To stay on topic.

🤣 🤣 🤣

Im just messing. Play on your words. You said deposed. The word to be used as a removal of a high position or question under oath of law.

Just a double entandre (in a very loose way) so to speak that allowed me to create a fictional deposition with world leaders and famous advocates in my head that did nothing but amuse me and derail the thread

Carry on. Ill show myself out

He was cruising the surface through some bait in the opposite direction about 20 yards away, but one of my sons running my trail boat behind me had two kids in the water, and I yelled to get them out. I'm pretty large, and he was eating small. Most sharks are preoccupied with Mother Nature's smorgasbord in Boca Grande called Tarpon Season.
