What is wrong with our defense this year ??

What is wrong????

Whatever was wrong last year, the year before , and on and on..... all the way back to Manny's defense at Texas and Mack Brown...
.. it is fools gold and the F00l refuses to change . It will continue to be so until he does.

It is 10000% it. Take a look at the 2018 schedule. Every ACC team other than V.Tech is VASTLY improved their offense since then. And the other teams like LSU essentially went into hibernation mode for an entire 2nd half.

The absolute run down your throat face ******* Wisconsin did in the bowl game is exactly what our defense is today still. Nothing has changed and Manny was never a good DC. He just lucked out by facing terrible offenses for 75% of the season.
 
No pressure being applied up front. If the front four can't apply pressure by themselves, its a problem. We don't have any standout edge rushers this year. Despite Pickett forced to go one dimensional and shredding the D for 500 yards, the defense looked much better fundamentally against Pitt. Far fewer missed tackles and blown assignments.

Central Michigan had 12 points


You don’t have to makeup things to still have a valid point

In 2018 we had the #3 defense in the country in YPP allowed. We allowed the lowest passer rating in America. We were 2nd in lowest completion percentage allowed. We led the country in 3rd down defense. We were 3rd in TFLs per game and 11th in sacks.

You don't do that by luck.

The scheme has some flaws, lost some talent at DL, some players not trying as hard as they should and having a pity party blaming everything else for failure, played Alabama and a surprisingly good MSU team with a really good RB.

The team could be 7-1 or 1-7. Some things went our way, some haven't.

Here we go again. This board never fails another Manny post. So the othet 500 threads started about the defense weren't good enough we need 501. Lmao.

Correct. Bottom line, VERY substandard athletes at CB and LB.

No difference maker at edge rusher.

Woefully inconsistent DT play.

Add those 3 combined and you're not gonna have a good defense.

Manny can’t develop players. They typically regress under him. That's why you see our best players be Fresh and transfers.
He also plays favorites.

I'll play -

1. This is one of the worst front 7s we've fielded in decades. Not an exaggeration. DEs are average at best, Our best DT is a true freshman, and our LB recruiting has been abysmal.

2. In the secondary, our best CB is a transfer, our best safety is a true freshman.

3. This scheme is predicated on creating havoc in the backfield. When the havoc is late or never shows, massive holes open up in the middle of the field.

4. 30 ppg is the new 20 ppg. In today's game, truly dominant defenses are hard to come by. The new mantra is "keep em under 30 and try and win a shootout."

No edge rushers or linebackers. Everything else is decent but those spots are horrible. I would include DT but LT is the only one we have. Everything else is jags so what did u guys expect
