Even though the OP is a troll, he is on to something. The worst loss is the 87 loss to Pedo State, but the Pitt loss is 2nd, IMO

Against Pitt we were ranked #2 , undefeated last game of the season, with the playoffs on the line, and we lost to a young team with a losing records, with a true freshman QB at the helm.

We've had bigger losses for sure (ND in 1988, PSU in 87, Taint in 2003), and we were still in a win and we were in scenario had we beaten Clemson, but the Pitt loss was inexcusable. That was a classic Mark Richt, in Charlie Brown mode.

If we beat Pitt and go into the ACC title game and lose, we're in exactly the same spot we are now. The Pitt loss was more or less meaningless other than what our ranking was heading into the ACC Title.

Look, alls I'm saying is you cannot lose to lowly pitt with a losing record an a true freshman QB, on the last game of the season, when you're undefeated and ranked 2nd. That's was not ,in my eyes, because that is a not Miami football. That's not Canes mentality. It was crazy to lose that game.

I agree. Plus, there is no shame in losing to good Teams, even in games you should win.....87 vs PSU, 1993 vs Bama, 2003 vs OSU, etc.

Losing to 4-7 Pitt while #2 .....EMBARRASSING!

Your thread is worst loss, not embarrassing. That’s why this thread is stupid. The worst loss is either the PSU or OSU National title games b/c 1. It meant the national Championship, and 2. We were the prohibitive favorites in both games w far better talent! They still talk about those games til this day! Why? B/c of the impact those games had. Losing to a scrub Pitt did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to us. We beat Clemson, we’re in the CFP; we lose to Clemson, and we’re out! Pitt was nothing.

2002 Natty set the program into a tailspain which it is just pulling out of.

That's the worst loss in the last 25 years for me.

Yeah the Peach Bowl was a point where I knew the program was in deep, deep trouble.

We were sitting right above the tunnel where the fight broke out too, brutal game.

2003 VT game was also rough because the cracks were really starting to show.
Yeah we were up in nose bleed and this mothergf. ...canes fan kept whistling at the top of his lungs i want to throw down with him.. my ears where still rinhing..

Loss in last game in OB against Virginia.
Remember sitting in my seat until the bitter end thinking, we've become the type of team everyone schedule's at the beginning of the year for a warmup game. Also that team laid down and quit.

This. I've never taken a loss so hard and hopefully never will again. Fvck Terry Porter.

The Pittsburgh loss can't go in any all time list because, as people pointed out, by itself it really didn't matter that much. Clemson did the same thing with Pitt last year, but won the national title. Think of the Patriots having clinched home field in the playoffs and losing to the Jets last game of the season. Not a good look, but it doesn't change much.

"Worst" loss can be in 2 categories. 1. Stakes/consequence and how much it devastates. and 2. Embarrassment/shame that it happened.

1. For me it's the OSU cheatfest where a championship was stolen. Next was ND '88. Penn State '86 comes 3rd because it was our fault.

2. Virginia 48-0. So sad to see last game at the Orange Bowl go in the records like that. Much worse than Clemson 58-0 because at least Clemson was a great team and we actually needed something dramatically awful to force the admins to wake up and make a change.

1993 Sugar Bowl against Alabama. Had a chance for a back-to-back.

.....You are kidding right?

Hail Flutie?

Fiesta Bowl vs. Penn State?

Terry Porters Phantom PI call?

BYU breaking our home winning streak?

Virginia pounding us in the last OB game?

Cleveland Gary 'fumble'?

....And you pick us losing to Pitt this year as the worst loss in UM history?

You're probably being a troll....I hope.

I think it was UW that broke our home winning streak...Saap blew the coin toss call and didnt elect to defer and instead said we want to kick

Another game of not much consequence, but sheer eye-rolling awful was Maryland 1984. We led 31-0 at halftime... and lost.

That '84 season was probably the craziest we've ever had. Next game after Maryland was the Flutie pass, then lost 39-37 to UCLA in the Fiesta. All this after beating #1 ranked Auburn in the opener. Also wins over Florida (their only loss that year) and a ranked Notre Dame. And a 38-3 loss to FSU.

stupid posters make stupid threads. not different than anything else this idiot has posted. mods need to do their jobs.

Every one of our losses in 2005 hurt. FSU because it opened the season with a 3 point loss to our rival. GT because we were riding high looking to win the Coastal and they had no business beating us. LSU because we got completely embarrassed by a team RICHT beat out for the SEC title.
