What is the deal with Charles Brantley

I think they wanted him at back-up nickel. Also think the coaches have pre requisites for who plays and there can’t be any deficiencies. endurance, tackling, toughness etc. on offense I think it’s blocking. You have to check all the boxes to get playing time on this team.

Let's be honest, Brantley does not look the part. I would be surprised if he weighed 165 lbs. He looks like an average high school player out there. It's shocking that UM missed on this evaluation.
He was probably gonna be a lot
But k Scott became available and he’s just been a dog at the slot but we have 7-8 games so he can have a role hopefully

The players ahead of him are all better players and he's only an outside guy. We tried a bunch of these guys out at nickel in the spring and it led us to getting Keionte Scott who plays a ton of snaps. So, we've got a glut of outside corners and he's the low man on the chart.

I think they brought him in to play Nickel..then realized he couldn’t play it…brought in KScott who has been an animal at Nickel..and now here we are. I don’t think the staff ever had ideas of him playing on the outside.

Stinks for him since it's his final year but we're playing 5 CBs every game, and if one of them has to miss time then perhaps Brantley slides in. Tony Johnson is in a similar spot. Bert Auburn as well. They can't all be home runs like Jakobe Thomas, David Blay, Mo Toure, CJ Daniels, etc.
Tony Johnson has an opportunity at least. We need a reliable 3rd and 4th WR. There is opportunity there for him. He just has to take full advantage.

They needed to overhaul the room. They did. But once they got a look at the first wave, they realized they needed a dedicated nickel corner. We play a ton of nickel (essentially our third linebacker in a lot of four down sets, fourth linebacker / third CB in three down sets. It requires a certain skillset, gotta be twitchy, gotta recognize and help in the run game...we luckily got the perfect guy. Playing like peak Aaron Colvin.

We’ve got at minimum seven consecutive games about to start. We will need him.
I hear you, you are thinking like a fan. I am looking at other perspective when I make comment, I doubt he imagined sitting on bench not getting any reps in big games to be a deep depth piece "break glass in case of injury" his senior year. Thats all I am saying. No one wants to bank on injuries to get reps lol..
