Mario isn't calling these plays, I know our fans love to create narratives and run with them, but honestly. Mario is a poor gameday coach that struggles with game management. That's what he is. He's our version of Dabo Swinney. The BEST we can hope for is that he hits on some high end coordinators and his talent evaluation and recruiting overcomes the crap decisions he is bound to make as a HC. In a perfect world, Mario would be a better game manager, but unfortunately, that isn't a skill that improves over time. The coaches that are poor at game management tend to be that way forever. For an example, see Davis, Butch.
Honestly tho.. how low do your GameDay management skills have to be to everyone on sideline has to be clock watching.. we pick up a first down, and the game is essentially over, we run three times and on the last under the lotted 40 sec play clock if u are reallllllllly slow with numbers u still run??!

I really don’t know if Mario knew situational football at the moment !

It's basic math, and Mario completely botched it. If you were that disorganized, take a TO. Even then, you take a knee and the clock still runs out before you have to snap it on 4th down. There's no way to justify this kind of clock management. I will say this, TVD has to eat some of this too. You'd think he would know time and situation, and would be resistant to running the play as called. I played a little QB in my day, obviously not at the collegiate level, I've checked out of plays that I knew had a low success probability and eaten the football as a result. I'd rather get chewed out by the coach, than run a play I knew would fail, based on the information presented at the LOS.

TVD could have said "I'm not running that, kill the play, I'm just eating this football and keep the clock running". Sometimes, a leader has to be willing to take heat, if it benefits the team. Mario should have been cognizant of the situation, but as the QB, you are the field general and should have been the stopgap.

Is it really that hard?! This is stuff I knew as a kid.. u do the math and literally celebrate when it happens.. people cheer loud if they pick up a first down knowing the game is won.. under 2 minutes running clock, even with time out I got three knees.. GAME OVER..

In game thread on first run I'm like Mario is goofy, he is running on first down, game is over.. idk if he was confused the gt coach didn't use timeout after getting first down.. after that I'm literally screaming wtf is he doin.. the entire thread is like take a knee!! Then the one announcer mentions something and the other guy is like noooo take a fuggin knee.. like how bad do u have to be? He has all off-season to run thru scenarios

I don’t think Kirby became less of a game day corch…

It is more likely he fine tuned Georgia’s financial aid packages to ensure he out talents everyone and adapted to get out of the way of his coordinators…

I played a lil ball, never QB.. seeing how some kids are just robots sometimes u have to micromanage a situation and the coach is who players depend on.. they all seemed unaware of the situation.. Mario is right there.. he has one job.. it's like he is lifeguard and he watched a kid drown on his watch.. this was just bad

I remember Kirby Smart got hit with the "Inability to manage games" tag early in his tenure. He never did anything this stupid, but he made some questionable decisions. That said, Kirby figured it out, and it's also a rarity that he is in a situation where his decision is the difference between winning and losing. When you are winning games by 14+ most of the time, it doesn't matter as much. It's obvious that Smart's experience as a coordinator has helped him, that's experience Mario never had. I don't think Mario is a strong gameplanner, he's a culture and recruiting guy, he isn't a strong tactician. Ironically enough, Dabo Swinney is much the same way, and guess who else had never been a coordinator? This is why I feel that Mario needs to lean on his coordinators, he also needs to leverage the GAs and others that can keep track of things he doesn't keep track of. I don't get why there isn't a person on staff whose entire job is clock management and strategy.

You are right. It was Mario's failure first and foremost. That said, out of all the players on the field, TVD is the one guy that should have been able to bring logic to the proceeding. To quote my old OC "You are a leader, if something happens and you are there, I'm blaming you. Even if it isn't your fault, it happened and you were there"

Im wondering why the **** didnt Mirabal say something... No way I let my best friend make that call.
It was a complete breakdown. Look, If I am TVD and I just witnessed the 4 quarters we just had, i don't give a **** what coach or coordinator says I'm kneeing that ******' play right there and moving on. I'm saving my coach from embarrassing himself.

TVD ain’t that guy!! A true leader would but TVD is the same guy hanging his head on the sideline !

The game's outcome was decided last night. We can be honest about that. The only question is whether Mack will try to humiliate Mario like he did with Manny Diaz and Shane Beamer midfield at the post-game handshake.
