Before this week's post, I wanted to talk to people outside the Canes bubble. I spoke to NFL personnel people, college coaches, and others to get an external perspective on our annual collapse. Afterwards, I spoke to Miami to get the inside perspective. This post will summarize their thoughts, along with my own.

Let's start with a disclaimer. Mario is in Year 4. These are his players, his coaches, and his culture. He owns everything that's failing. A rash of injuries would be outside his...

What was the story on Riley Williams departure?

He has one catch this season at Oregon State. I dont know if he's injured.

Ive never been sold on Dawson. His passing route combinations always look bizarre when you see them in person. We rarely have wide receivers get separation on their initial routes.

Last year we were blessed to have perhaps the best scramble ball QB of the past 25 years. Most of Ward's passing yards came in the scramble ball phase of the play.

I'm encouraged with the "let it rip" comment because that's what needs to happen. I know they have to actually go out and do that but it's much better than getting, "we just need to run the plays better", which is what I'd thought they'd say. They have to play free and fearless. Coaches included.

So that helps me transition to this: @DMoney I asked in another thread but I'll ask it again here, given some of the snippets coming from the CFP committee, do you know if the staff is aware that winning the last 4 games may not be enough and that style will play a huge part in whether we have a chance to make the CFP? Let it rip, if they actually do that, could reinvent the image, which is clearly important to those selecting the teams.

I appreciate and respect you even making this post, didn’t think you would. Just two things to add:

First, Mario put 3 top 10 picks into the league while at Oregon but outside of that the rest was extremely underwhelming. I see a similar pattern happening at Miami, probably slightly better.

Second, and this was brought to the board by others and yet another red flag ignored which was just how weak the PAC was during Mario’s tenure. It’s no surprise he is struggling to win the ACC. His PAC success just wasn’t that impressive whatsoever once you looked under the hood.
