Spoke to sources this afternoon following the Jatori Williams decommitment. Here is the latest:

- Jatori's decommitment took us by surprise. Miami loves the person and the player. Any suggestion that this was a drop couldn't be further from the truth. This is a Deep South recruiting battle with distance working against us. I expect Miami to keep pushing for Williams full-throttle like they always do with priority recruits.

- When I talk to Miami, the overall sense is excitement and ambition. They are still focused on Plan A+ and not any Plan Bs or Cs. We've been pushing for OT Mark Matthews through his commitment to Texas A&M and haven't slowed down. The Aggies' struggles certainly help. This will be a back-and-forth battle but Miami is playing to win. Money was never the issue.

- EDGE DJ Jacobs remains the biggest focus on defense. Jaiden Bryant, Miami's five-star EDGE commit, is having a dominant senior season. The goal is to pair Bryant and Jacobs as instant-impact pass rushers to replace whatever premium players we lose. DJ and his brother Dawson Jacobs (who is a big 2028 target) are visiting for the Pitt game. Expect the red carpet.

- The name with a lot of juice right now is five-star WR Brysen Wright. I like Miami's momentum here and this weekend's visit is a huge opportunity.

- Expect some movement in and out of the class. This staff is always monitoring senior tape. Two names playing very well: Aston Whiteside (Texas A&M commit) and Quinton Cypher (Ohio State commit).

- The Portal is a long way away, but I suspect Miami will be firmly play for any NFL-type defensive tackle prospects.

 

I mean GMs in the the NFL draft plenty of guys with mediocre tape high because of "tools" every year

Everybody who gets drafted has tools, yall think he’s gonna test like Travon Walker or something .

 

Well, I'm not saying that he wont get better, I'm only asking how much better will he get seeing that he's in his 4th year in college, so I'm speaking on the collegiate level.

I think a lot of the stuff he is getting wrong is recognition, which will improve with more reps.

A couple of Michigan OL should be in the portal in December.

According to Michigan sites, the OL recruited by Harbaugh/Moore were for a power run scheme and haven’t meshed with the zone schemes brought in by OC Jason Beck.

Personally I want C Jake Guarnera, he is from South Florida and has two years starting experience (1 at RG and 1 at C).

A lot of posters think we should portal QB every year. I don't like locking myself into any one way of thinking or action. But if I were to apply that every year portal rule it would be for Center.

It requires a combination of mental & physical attributes that you just aren't likely to find in a lot of young lineman. We haven't recruited the position well enough to ask them to start Day 1 or even year 2.

****, from the outside looking in, do we even recruit C? Seems like we go for guards that we want to turn into C. Is that how most people do it? Genuine question.

Wasnt talking about samson specifically he would absolutely benefit from another yr of starting/experience.. just making the point you dont need great tape to get drafted high, its how bums like Anthony Richardson get drafted top 5

I think they want someone experience because the position is so important to want they want to do. Of course then that becomes a never ending cycle of portaling. They have tried over the years but haven’t had success. Lew was the big loss and it seems like it took awhile for them recover from that. SJ was a couple classes after him and I don’t know why they haven’t been able to teach him how to snap. With his size they had to he would a liability at another position.

Guanera is a RS-Soph, so if he jumps in the portal he could be a multi year solution and then hopefully one of two guys we signed last year would be able to take over after he is done. Wishful thinking on my part though
