I’m gonna go through it all so buckle up, this is gonna be a long one...
Good:
We won and covered so that’s always a positive. Only being a 2 score favorite over a G5 school is something to talk about later.
We struck gold at RB. King is a playmaker and bailed us out many times. Cherish him.
Kicking game looks like it’s figured out. Hedley is a bonafide stud.
Bad:
We can’t manufacture our own energy. We continue to come out slow and with no crowd noise, we are gonna sleep walk through so many first halves and it’s gonna cost us like it did last year. Manny has yet to get this team ready from kick since he took over.
Our coaching and game planning is abysmal. King isn’t a true passing QB unless he gets into the flow of the game. So why were we running twice and throwing bombs all first half? Did our coaches not watch practice? Had they not seen King’s film?
Why are we holding back on play calling? Lashlee has hours of film already out there, he’s not some unknown HS coach from Alaska. If he could show it in the 3rd quarter, why not in the first half?
Our WR’s are soft and small. We aren’t beating guys one on one and need to put more guys in conflict or were gonna be getting manhandled in press coverage all year.
Mallory supposedly had a great camp, where was he? Why does practice never carry over into games? Same with GR15 last year.
O line still sucks and looked weak.
What kind of program does Feeley have the guys on? Why do all of them look like body builders but functionally we play so weak? Outside of our backs, I didn’t see us winning many battles by brute strength.
D line looked fine outside of a few running plays. Ford was non existent. I’ve never understood the hype on him. Why is he playing so much when he offers so little? He holds up decent in the run game, that’s it. He’s been here for a decade, what else are they hoping for? I don’t think we will see the sack output of last year bc teams are finally seeing misdirection plays and getting the ball out quick is how you eliminate our strength on D.
Linebackers are terrible. Let me remind you, we have 3 linebacker coaches and it’s still underwhelming. Why is Ragone playing? McCloud has been here for 5 years and he gets worse every year. He looks so lost. Why are the young guys not getting PT? If you have the option of less athletic players who miss assignments vs athletic guys who might miss assignments, who are you choosing?
DB play was a joke. Why are we giving 10 yards of cushion on 3rd and 3? Why are we giving anything up short when our d line is getting pressure, but UAB is getting the ball out so quick? Why are we scared of a QB that couldn’t start at some high schools? Why is Ivey playing? He’s gonna get picked on all year and there are no signs of him improving. Rumph needs to be given his walking papers. Some here love to point out all the 4 stars we have back there, so with so much talent why do they look so bad so often? Blades is the only Miami caliber corner we have, barring one of the young guys getting a shot to prove that wrong this year.
