Things that were disappointing:

Oline play
Lack of passing game
Predicability of offense
Lack of WR separation
Refusal to exploit edges by running straight up the middle
Inability of cornerbacks to blanket Conf USA WRs
Playing Ragone over Brooks, Wilder, Huff and other scholarship LBs in the first half
Playing Marshall Few over scholarship WRs in the first half.
Phillips underwhelming play
Starting DT play (backups were better)

Things that pleased me:

Few penalties
Punter
Kicker
Holder
Dats it.

1.OL got pushed around all night
2.Easy passes missed
3.UAB recievers open almost every play
4.Our recievers looked like they were covering the UAB corners
5.Play calling too conservative and predictable

1.King showed signs of what we know he can be
2.Appears the RB’s are the real deal
3. We made a field goal
4. D-line appears to hold their own for most the game

C+ performance in my eyes, just because first game in weird times.

First game, new scheme, new coaches, weirdly quite stadium and less than normal practices. I’ll give them a bit of a break, but I hope we start pulling it together soon and the playbook expands a little.

First game.
The Defense does what it does. They could have easily given up just a FG tonight.
The 4th down off-sides before the TD was a bad call. I've never seen a player "go in motion" like that. Obvious deception.

The offense was vanilla.
The only positive is when Lashlee picked it up a little, we did some good things.
Hey, we finally covered a 14 point spread.

Liked the kicking
Like roche a lot.
Dline looked good.
Nesta actually actually produced which he needed to imo.
Young rbs flashed, which is awesome.

I’ll reserve judgment for the offense, seemed like they did hold back.

dislikes To put bluntly,

Still don’t get why we don’t play young talented players Over older players. Looking at the lb group in particular.

after hearing how great pope, ivey and Harley were all off-season they look like busts

I really want to like rumph but dudes gotta go man no way in **** you can defend him

Liked:

King's mobility
The RBs
O-line opening holes in the run game
Nesta
Roche
Special teams

Disliked:

Ivey
Linebackers
Playcalling (think it'll be better next week)
King not finding his rhythm passing
Ragone's existence
Noodles
The lack of Brevin and Mallory

Pope and Ivey are busts. These aint miami caliber players
Other than the muff I thought pope looked fine. He made a nice catch on low pass and got a first down. His other returns were fine. He looks bigger so that's a plus.

Like:

King is dynamic
Stable of backs. Did u Chaney? He his full gear in a hurry.
Payton was cracking fools. He showed toughness and good hands.
Low penalties
0 offensive turnovers
Burns is actually decent and looks hungry

Dislike:

Baker *** defense. We were toast off the snap
Ivey and rumph
Safety’s taking horrible angles
Rotating of players
McCloud
Can we intercept a ball?!?
Pope is just too frail for D1 ball regardless of muffed punt.
Did I mention muffed punt
Zero TE usage
Scaife and Gaynor are very underwhelming

1 big improvement was the D getting stops on 3rd down. That's been a big issue the last few years

Liked
31-14 win!
King looked good running, but not throwing.
2/2 on 4th down.
Defense looked good against the run.
Covered my 14 point spread for $100!!!!!!

What i Disliked
7/17 on 3rd down
Pass defense poor.
Muffed punt, can't have that.

Overall Grade--B

We won. Go Canes!!
Grading on a curve?
