Thursday Night Football on ESPN? The games this year are just dreadful with Tier 3 teams on every week. We played at Tech last year on a Thursday night and it seemed in the past that it was privilege to play on Thursday night where now it is a punishment. Anyone else notice this?

Seriously? You are bringing something up related to VT after getting negged into Oblvion's Oblivion?

I think since the nfl started playing on Thursday too CFB doesn’t want to try and compete with them even though the way things are going If CFB put decent games on the nfl might be trying to compete with them..just a hunch.

It was a tangible example we can relate to

good for you

I know attendance is a topic none of us like that well, but I can’t understand how an 8-1 USF team, getting ready to be 9-1, has such bad attendance on a Thursday night game. There is literally nobody in the lower bowl.

Something tells me a USF and Tulsa matchup isn't very enrapturing.

Thursday night home team in CFB was one of the best bets of the last decade. That was when it was the Thursday night game.

Go Canes!

Nobody really gives a dam about USF in Tampa unless it’s 07 and they are ranked #2 .

I get what you all are saying, but how much better can it get for a G5 team, 9-1, and in the running for a New Year’s Day Bowl. Yet it looked like there were no more than 15,000 in the stands. And that might be generous.

Even if it’s only Tulsa, if this is the kind of support they get with the kind of record and potential they have for this year to have an outstanding record, then it’s going to be at depressing time for Charlie Strong in Tampa going forward. They won’t be having this kind of year every year.

I'm with ya on this. Was surprised to see the turnout.

I don't think fans like Thursday night games, especially if the game is in or around a big city and you have to deal with trying to get off work early and fight traffic just so you can get maybe an hour and a half of decent tailgating time. Those games take away from the typical "Saturday event" nature of a college football game. If it was up to me, we'd never host any.

They work better in small college towns that revolve purely around the school.

Miami-GT was supposed to be a Thursday game. There are always good ones and I think that Miami and VT (not necessarily against each other) always lead the pack in terms of great games scheduled on Thursdays. I like them.

NFL on Thursdays is terrible. They are like the big brother in college showing up to the little brothers high school party trying to pick up girls. It's just cringey and embarrassing. NFL needs to kick rocks and sort itself out. Stick to Sundays and Monday.

NFL is not giving up its Thursday games....There was a report last week that the Thursday night games adds $125,000 to the average NFL player salary. Considering that half the league makes $770,000 or less.....guys won't be willing to give up that type of scratch.

I wonder if all the TV Contract changes have affected this or if Conferences just don't want to play on Thursday night.

B10 never plays on Thursday outside the opening weekend.
SEC did not this year and don't remember to many Thursday night SEC games....maybe a few OOC at the beginning of the year
B12 had 1 thursday night game (Texas vs Iowa State) at the beginning of the year.
PAC12 plays several games....but always start later

I think the Thursday night game was always a Big East or ACC thing mostly and the smaller conferences.

I think you’d find the good games all in sep/oct. November games are hit and miss
