Per usual we're out of sync with everything. In watching highlight packages from Saturday the announcers were emphasizing that power football was slowly returning to prominence. They ran one clip after another of Iowa and other teams succeeding with basic football from standard sets. The Michigan/Michigan State game was spotlighted.
Naturally the Canes pick here and now to make the transition that other programs made 5+ seasons ago. USC went there last year. Trojan fans are already sick of shotgun football. There are threads asserting the next coach cannot be a read option type.
As I mentioned last week, the most sickening contrast was the Cincinnati game compared to the North Carolina game at Chapel Hill two years ago. I attended both games. There was no question that North Carolina's defense was far more athletic and talented than anything Cincinnati fielded. The opposing crowd was larger and more frenzied. Our deficit was larger at North Carolina. But I retained hope during that Thursday at Chapel Hill once we got under center in the 4th quarter and started pounding away. There was absolutely no threat of that this time. I watched but never considered the prospect of a rally. We had the same offensive coordinator but once you've switched to cupcake fake and finesse out of the shotgun you aren't going to have power football as a backup plan. Somehow the coordinators and spread head coaches deem that as weak. You'll never see Sumlin do it. I loved McElwain several years ago because he was one of the ultra rare exceptions. I'm sure he'll steadily forge Florida in position to succeed with either style once he has more of his own recruits in place.
I'm with you OP. We are running zone runs with 2 ton maulers upfront. Typical al golden not recruiting for a scheme then not adjusting scheme to fit his players.
No I formation. No Ace. No lead blocker. We run a limited amount of pistol but we telegraph everything. Every pistol run is off tackle., predominately to the right. Every shotgun is always to the opposite side of where he is lined up and is almost always to the right.

No I formation. NO FB. No lead blocker. No power running game in the spread.
Y'all wanted the spread so deal with it.
Until coley gets fired nothing changes
One problem with the running game is it's *predictable*. Against VT, Miami ran an off tackle play almost every 1st and 10. Bud Foster quickly figred this out and started loading the box every 1st down, and the result was usually a no gain.
Less predictable play calling would help.

I could be wrong but I don't feel like I've seen a new running play (installed) since the first game. I'm seeing the same plays now that I saw in week one.

How many more times are we going to see the angle route play to Yearby? When in doubt, do what worked against FAU.
Like I said a few weeks ago....
It's like Coley went to a spread clinic and it currently running the same 5 plays that he learned in the clinic.
My sentiments exactly.Like I said a few weeks ago....

Uh...
You can use all of the same run concepts out of the spread that you use in the pro-style. Coley just doesn't know WTF he's doing.
You can run Power, Iso, Counter, Trap, etc etc etc...out of the spread.

Watch the New England Patriots. We don't have to do as much as them, but we can switch between zone and power running more effectively. Out of almost any formation.
We just suck. At basically everything.
