What happened to our LB's....

FWIW I think you guys are not realizing their seasons have been quiet because our DL has been living in the backfield. They are backers, it’s in the word. If the DL misses or gets washed it’s theirs to fill. Not sure I saw many instances where a DL wasn’t at the point of contact with the ball carrier the last 3 games...

A few thoughts here.
You will struggle to find DTs (Doritos defense) if all you want them to do is eat space. The DL penetration we generate allows the OL to go get the LBs, so if the DL misses then they tend to be bigger runs.
My only issue with shaq and pink is they get caught up in the wash too much. But all in all they are doing a solid job. Some of it is just how this defense is built. It’s built to take advantage of all of the speed DE in south fla.

Just my thoughts on our LBs.

I didn't forget Perryman. He wasn't as good as Spence. He made some great plays, but I remember this board always *****ing how his great hits were always 9 yards passed the LOS. He crushed guys....after they got the first down. Spence lived in the opposing backfield.

You're also making my point. You only named ONE backer that we recruited SEVEN years ago.
 
It’s Manny Diaz scheme, LB’s need to stay home a bit more and let the play develop. Defend your territory instead of rush the line or drop back to safety land. Manny wants them back the Dline and deep middle and abandon their primary responsibilities.

DP or Spence... Is a 50/50 debate

It all depends on who you ask and what type of LB you like

I liked DP a little more due to his bone jarring hits and aggressive style ! Dude was a BEAST

I definitely saw Shaq being asked to cover a WR (at least) 10 yards downfield against FIU.

It's not a 50/50 debate. Spence had 2x the sacks and TFLs in the same amount of games. He was better by a significant margin.
 
The defense gave up like 6 yards through 3.75 quarters and yet we still have the usual squishy Monday morning tampon threads.

Yeah, yeah, it's FIU, but every single one of you had them giving us a game. They didn't.

Spence was a playmaking LB who made more plays, but missed on more as well. DP is one of the most fundamentally sound LBs we've had here, didn't make all the plays that Spence did, but he rarely missed them either.

Two very solid linebackers, nothing wrong with either. In fact, I think they would've complemented each other very well in their college primes.
 
This defense is one of the best in the country.. it's clear that the only ppl who think our linebackers have "regressed" or suck are clowns that dont know **** about the system and what they're being asked to do in it.

It's our dline's job to make the plays in the backfield.. its our linebackers job to fill lanes that are left when our dline goes crazy disrupting the LOS. It's our Lbs job to hold the defense together... they've done a great job of making plays within this scheme.

Shaq has had his best season yet and it's obvious to anyone whose not a fckn mouth breather. The plays that Pinckney makes for the most part are outside of what he's asked to do. Like when he shoots the gap to make a play in the backfield, those aren't blitzes, he's just saying fck filling the lane im going to make the play.

If everybody did that at the same time.. we would be getting gashed for 60 yard gains every other play... SO STFU with this dumb ****. FAKE NEWS LIKE ALWAYS AT CIS!

Who gives a sht,,,,,,their season hasn't even technically started yet. Let's see how they perform when it actually matters. There is no way this team was going to compete for a spot in the playoffs, so wait till they finish their conference run. The Coastal is filled with half *** teams so you can make your observations then. If they don't perform against this path of basketball schools, then you can, and should, bash away.

There are plenty of sht coaches in the ACC, especially the Coastal. So the lack of coaching shouldn't play a major part in their play. Plenty of players have overcome bad coaching and still performed at high levels on the field.

Yep. He's a very good fit for the Striker role. Former Safety, can run in space, physical... Excited to see another year of Finley/Shaq/Pinckney with Carter and Hall playing behind them.
 
I mean it's not like Shaq wasn't the 3rd best player on defense according to PFF or anything vs fiu. I

All in all a great defensive performance from the 1st string defense yesterday. You can’t say FIU will hang 30pts, then say 22pts, then realize they didn’t get either of those stated predictions. Do we have the best LB corps in college football today? No, but they are more competent that what’s said of them here. They, for the most part, do the jobs they’re being asked to do by Diaz. If there’s a major fault to be assigned here, it’s on him. He’s the one calling dumb *** blitzes in game after game, instead of utilizing his team’s speed and strengths and organizing a defense around those variables. I do however like the Striker role when we go 4-2-5, and Finley is really playing the position well. With Perry hopefully starting now moving forward, then maybe Richt can have a chat with Manny about reducing these so called exotic blitzes because they’re neither exotic nor effective. Play man up on the outside and use the safeties split 50/50 coverage in zone behind then. Let the LB’s flow to the ball and cover their gaps in a more disciplined manner. And let the DL continue to eat, especially Willis who’s playing like a man possessed thus far.
