What happened on this play with O’Connor?

Go ahead and **** on the players all you want. Just remember, O'Connor was a backup who was forced into action due to injuries. He wasn't picked on vs Ole Miss because 16 was on the field as a true freshman.

87 is on the coaches and Lofton's injuries. Clearly, Mario knew that, which is why that coach is gone. Recruit better and play better.
87- THAT was a Lack of Effort and Awareness issue. 94 was also to blame, as it was a half-second longer than it should have been. 6 can also catch some blame, as he could have engaged the DL for a split second longer.

You are picking out individual plays and saying these kids screwed up. O'Connor didn't ***** up on either back shoulder play; he was over the top, stopping the deep threat. He also broke up multiple passes during the game. O'Connor was not for lack of effort! Heck, you can blame Mario for not landing better kids.

We ******* lost, and ****ting on the players doesn't change a ******* thing! Maybe it makes you feel better.

Look at you acting like a ***** because a couple of players are rightfully being singled out for poor play. Nobody is "****ting on the players all we want". As for O'Connor being a backup, I don't give a ****. Football is a violent game, injuries are a part of the game, and you MIGHT have to play if someone gets hurt. There is no excuse for poor play.

And I'm not going to allow "excuses" to justify Bauman's play either. To act like Woodiel taking a job the day after the championship is because Mario "knew that" about, I don't know, god knows what. You make zero sense at all. Bauman was not a very good tight end for us, but he was an even worse special-teamer for us, and the primary criticism here is his special teams play. Woodiel came to Miami with Mario, so let's not act like he is some cancer that Mario had to cut out. Dawson has not used tight ends well, no matter what personnel we have given him. And only God knows what Bauman did what he did on the punting unit.

As for trying to blame the punter, he took the same time to make the kick as normal. "A half-second longer" means nothing when Bauman is not SWIPING THE RUSHER right past himself and into the kicker. Oh, and someone else "should have engaged the DL for a split second longer". Good lord, you are worthless when you try to "analyze" things. So, do you think that passes were completed on those drives, but we should ignore everything because the last plays were rushes?

Please, for the love of God, do everyone a favor and stop talking about football, as you clearly know nothing and don't understand the sport. You might enjoy the commercials and the fireworks, but you really don't know what you are talking about once it goes beyond the garbage you can read in a summary of the scoring drives.

Most of us actually watch the games, instead of reading about them later as you do.

You make zero sense whatsoever, work on your writing skills. Bauman was not a very good tight end for us, but he was an even worse special-teamer for us, and the primary criticism here is his special teams play. Good lord, you are worthless when you try to "analyze" things. If the front line should be "engaging the rushers for a split second longer", then why do we have THREE guys deep? The reality is that Indiana DID NOT MAX RUSH, while we max protected. Only 2 Indiana players made it back to the three-deep, so they were not overwhelmed. So stop blaming OTHER people, like the punter or the RUNNING BACK who couldn't block a defensive lineman from an in-line 3-point stance. It's just stupid to blame the guys who made no mistakes.

As for O'Connor, yes, his play was suspect at all points in the game. Maybe he broke up 2 passes. At most. One of which coulda/woulda/shoulda been a Pick 6 with any other Miami DB in that spot. He just played terrible coverage most of the time. And don't tell me that was "by design" or by the call of the coaches. When Xavier Lucas came into the game, he was allowed to play up close to the line of scrimmage. O'Connor can't BECAUSE HE CAN'T BE TRUSTED. Waaahhh, waaaaah, "back shoulder passes are nearly impossible to defend". That's a load of crap, otherwise every team would run them on every play. The reality is, they knew they could do it against O'Connor because he couldn't defend it and couldn't stop it. He was terrible.

"****ting on players". That's a lie. I saw dozens of players lay everything on the line, all night. Not O'Connor. And not Bauman.
You are the one *****ing. I said you could keep it up, and clearly, you did. You can whine all you want.

As for taking shots at posters like myself: "You make zero sense whatsoever, work on your writing skills"

I could ask for the same: "And only God knows what Bauman did what he did on the punting unit."
""A half-second longer" means nothing when O'Connor is not SWIPING THE RUSHER right past himself and into the kicker."

WTF does this even mean? "Most of us actually watch the games, instead of reading about them later as you do." It isn't the 1800s, anyone in the world can watch the game as many times as they would like.

Have a good day, message board god. I love how emotional you are about this.

Look, dip****, you wrote THIS:

"87 is on the coaches and Lofton's injuries. Clearly, Mario knew that, which is why that coach is gone." and it makes no sense. "87 is on the coaches and Lofton's injuries" and then "Mario knew that, which is why that coach is gone"? Mario is not going to fire a TE position coach who has been with him at two schools "because injuries". Mario is not going to force a TE position coach out when we get the TEs we want during recruiting, but then the Offensive Coordinator doesn't call plays for them.

As for my statements, please, I beg of you, just WATCH THE GAME. Watch the actual play. Bauman is at the edge of three guys in the deep protection line. He has the flexibility to be able to fire his body forward or outward at an oncoming rusher to impede that rusher. He does not have to stay in a crouch. He does not have to remain immobile and get run over. But what he did INSTEAD was to reach his arms out and SWIPE the rusher from in front of him to behind him, as if the rusher was just going to fall flat on his face from exertion.

JUST LOOK AT THE PLAY. There is no block. There is no impeding effort. There are two arms extended to swipe the rusher closer to the punter, as if Bauman's sole purpose was to get past the rusher in order to run downfield to cover the punt. Which, of course, he did not do.

WATCH THE PLAY AGAIN. Everyone sees it except for you. Bauman puts his hands out. DID YOU NOT SEE THAT? Bauman then swipes his hands from in front of his body to behind his body as the punt-blocker moves past him. DID YOU NOT SEE THAT?

WATCH THE PLAY AGAIN. It is as clear as the nose on your face. Bauman's "swipe" at Kamara, which one can only guess is intended to cause Kamara to fall, or at least run right past the punter, did not have the desired effect. In fact, if anything, it helped Kamara to reach the punter more quickly and directly.

CLEAR EYES CAN SEE THAT, IF YOU JUST LOOK AT THE PLAY AGAIN.

This has nothing to do with whether I am a "message board god" (which, quite clearly, I am), this has everything to do with you picking fights with people who are validly criticizing the performance of a couple of players who contributed to the loss on Monday. The fact that you can't handle the facts and arguments I've made, and are pursuing ad hominem attacks on me personally, is just evidence that you've got nothing to say of any value.

OK Dip****:
O'Connor didn't miss the block. What you wrote.

What does this still shot tell you about Brown? He was lined up over Brown and brown let him by. It is just as much on Brown as 87. Both failed to block a guy coming to block a punt.

he mentally doesnt have what it takes. you can tell from how he reacts to basic plays all year, the two almost INTs vs ole miss, and this play here where he was celebrating instead of realizing he should've had the pick 6. It doesn't even register to him that the pick 6 was a possibility. and that's the most disappointing part.
Some of yall never played ball before. As a spectator, of course you see it! But when bullets are flying in real time, it ain’t as easy to just make the right read in a split second! The WR stopped instead of going back to the ball. So if you are the DB, and coming from as far as he was coming from, like 7 yards back. You may not think you have a chance at the ball if the receiver is working back to the ball. It was a banal bang play.

Good lord, you are dense.

CharMarMarty Brown is a running back. A guy who, by training, has not been instructed on how to rise up to block a speed-rushing defensive end, and certainly not from an in-line position. One can clearly see from the video that his combination of height and weight are no match for the speed-rushing defensive end. Simply stated, Kamara gets by CharMarMarty Brown so quickly that CharMarMarty is not able to engage Kamara in anything resembling a block, particularly when the responsiblities of his position are then to turn upfield and cover the punt returner himself.

This is the reason why the "deep" defender in a punting formation is no longer ONE MAN IN THE MIDDLE, but is THREE guys blocking. Because pressure is no longer coming from overwhelming force in the middle (particularly now that punt return teams cannot put a guy over the long-snapper or otherwise engage the long-snapper.

More often than not, the primary "pressure" comes from speedy guys on the outside who try to block the punt on an angle, rather than straightforward.

Ultimately, the guys on the line are NOT the primary blockers at the edges. They are chippers who then run upfield to cover the punt returner. The three deep men have primary responsbility for slowing down speed-rushers and guys crashing from the edges. Anyone who can't see that has not paid attention to the changes in college football.

Grow up, Mr. Bauman. All the finger-pointing in the world doesn't change the fact that your son WHIFFED on his block.

Dear God,

You started the fight because you didn't like my simple post. I didn't pick a fight with anyone. I simply said I was sick of seeing people ****ting on kids. You ran with it and started name calling. Fitting for someone who thinks they are a god.

You also look dense when you say Brown can’t take on edge guys but he did just that all night long.

Don’t forget to take your PM pills.

Two things can be true at once. Kid made the play and didn’t allow the catch. Kid also could’ve had a game changing play but went with the sure play instead.

Had he went for the pick and IU gets a big play, we all would’ve crucified him about just making the simple play. Because if you go for the INT, you BETTER make that play, otherwise you’re hurting the team.

As per usual, your reading comprehension is deficient, and your accusations are fraudulent.

Numerous times, I made it quite clear that CharMarMarty Brown was ill-equipped to go against a speed-rushing defensive end FROM AN INLINE POSITION WHILE COMING OUT OF A 3-POINT STANCE.

If you don't understand what that means, feel free to ask. But it's also the primary reason why CharMarMarty doesn't play offensive tackle.

You are so...unintelligent...

O’Connor didn’t give up a touchdown, Bauman did.

O’Connor didn’t throw a granny shot to Indiana to end the game. Beck did.

The importance of B&B outweighs all of EOCs plays.

Good lord, you are grasping and desperate.

I never put all three into some definitive ranking system. I compared and contrasted them.

Besides, if O'Connor had played better, perhaps the Bauman and Beck mistakes don't matter anyhow. If you want to continue playing silly games.

Marty Brown was supposed to chip the DE and Bauman was supposed to block the DE.

Brown executed poorly.

Bauman showed minimal effort but I don't think he was on punt protection all season so was probably out of his element.

Lots of plays dictated the outcome but the blocked punt was obviously the elephant in the room.

What’s with the theatrics? “Good lord”…Simma down man. You’re not that important and this **** isn’t that serious 😂

Hedge all you want..your assessment is weak and wrong.

Press just isn't our thing. We're a heavy Cover-3 and Cover-4 team. And in Cover-3/Cover-4 our CB's play a bail technique while depending on the flat defender to give them help underneath. Issue is, if the offense can occupy that flat defender for a split second, you can throw hitches at the CB all day. The underneath help doesn't get there in time.

There's a more aggressive approach to Cover-3/Cover-4 which is what Indiana plays. Even when their CB's are playing "off" alignment, they are very aggressive in jumping those short/intermediate routes. (it's basically zone with man technique)

But that's a Saban thing, which is where Cignetti spent some time. That's why Saban made a comment at halftime about us giving up "access throws".

I'm not a fan of playing CB this way, mainly for 2 reasons.

1. They're CB's. They like to cover, not tackle. When you play them so far off and they are giving up short/quick routes, you force them to be tacklers.

2. We're long and fast at Corner. Absolutely no reason to coach like we're scared of the deep ball. Make them throw over the heads of our 6'0"-6'2" Corners. Playing off coverage isn't playing into our gifts (length and speed).

How would you mitigate the access throws without changing how we do things. Sprinkle MEG or palms?

O'connor was victimized by a scared Dc making them play off. Not mad at him at all the dude competed.

Meanwhile somebody started a #87 appreciation thread when he's been a trash on the field all dam year. We basically lost the game because of him. drops and no effort on special teams.

O'connor - actually competed

#87. - for all intent and purposes needs to be investigated for point shaving. an OTF pos. Thats how egregious his play was. I still cant believe it.

Last year it was porter and that other db that were probably the worse players on the team. This year 87 was worse than both those guys put together. You're sorriest player cannnot be that bad. thats needs to be fixed immediately

Hopefully he plays this in his head during the off-season and becomes a Pick 6 specialist in 2026!

I was incredibly disappointed with O'Connor's play on Monday. More than one play.

I openly questioned why he remained in the game in the second half, once Xavier Lucas returned.
Was more mad about the staff continuing to roll out a 5'9 corner to cover a 6'5 WR. They didn't do him any favors there.

Let me help you with video proof that it wasn't 100% on 87. Before I do so, you may want to take back Brown being in a 3-point stance. We haven't used 3-point stances on punt for years.

Does Brown block a faster guy out of a TWO-POINT stance? (no 3-point stances) No Aussie-style kick. Clearly, it is possible.

How about this one? Does he fail to engage with the man over him? No Aussie-style kick?

Now we get to see 54 Newton get lazy and not engage IU 6, BUT they slide protection and no Aussie-style kick.

Brown didn't even engage, but Joyce didn't kick Aussie-style and avoided the block.

From all of this, I'd put more blame on Joyce than anyone. The only Aussie-style punt was blocked. He moved more than his protection and also kicked Aussie.

Anyway, carry on with your BS narratives.
