What explains FSU's downtrend?

FSU’s demise started the last few years of the Bowden era. They’d have highly rated recruiting classes, but many of the best didn’t qualify or in one case, the #1 QB nationally went to play pro baseball. They had to force Bowden out. Jimbo recruited Winston, Ramsey, and a few others and won a ship. The Admin went cheap, Jimbo got an offer he couldn’t refuse, and the rest is a downward spiral.

But seriously, F-FSU.
You talking about D’Vontrey Richardson?

IMO a lot of it for them is a culture issue. We have some of that too but I think it might actually be worse there. The issue was there even when they were good.....Crab Legs covered up a lot of it and pulled out games for them. **** Al Golden should have had a win against them.

Could have something to do with hiring this guy:

When steady great recruiting cycles come to an abrupt end. It takes years to regain that. I know someone on the inside who worked for Jimbo until his last year (Said he was an ***). He said his contacts told him near the end, and when Jimbo was negotiating behind the scenes, he wasn't doing much on FSU's behalf. When it was announced he was leaving so did the program's luster and lots of de-commits.

Before that he was 13-1 against instate rivals, because he out recruited them. The average annual ranking of FSU up to 2017 was:

Florida State: 4.75
Florida: 8.875
Miami: 17.875

Once they started musical coaches, and we started beating them, that's what happened. High School athletes are more sophisticated. Even if we got Mario it would still take years to prove you can win and give those athletes the best place and chance to go to compete for titles. Now, Florida has most recruit's attention. Not rocket science; once the ship leaves the dock, its hard to catch it. So, just win baby! And neither us or FSU have O-lines which reveals even more.

The QB? Joe Mauer.

Mauer was honored as the 2001 Gatorade National Player of the Year, was named to the USA Today All-USA high school football team, was honored as USA Today's Player of the Year, was a Reebok/ESPN High School All-American, and was awarded Player of the Year for the game that would go on to be known as the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Mauer was also named National High School Quarterback of the Year in 2000 by The National Quarterback Club.

After committing to play football at Florida State University, Mauer ultimately decided instead to enter the Major League Baseball Draft. Mauer was selected by the Twins as the first overall pick of the 2001 draft.

He was only one such recruit. The Noles have had many 5* types fail to quality or just fail.

The naming of Jimbo as coach in waiting helped their recruiting immensely cause Jimbo was able to recruit as the next HC without the restrictions of in homes the HC faces. It allowed then to have continuity with their recruiting because kids knew the guy sitting in their front room was gonna be there next coach.

Having this advantage did wonders for their recruiting cause you didn’t have the normal de-commits and scrambling you normally have when HC changes are made.It makes a big difference when you can sit in a front room 5-6 times to convince momma and daddy as well as the recruit where he should go as opposed to the one in home a HC can normally make.

Made a HUGE difference in their recruiting which help the change from Bobby to Jimbo.

Copy, I was confused because I thought you were talking way further into Bowden’s tenure.
