Here we are getting ready to play Wisky in a bowl game. Win it and we are finishing the year ranked in the top 25 for the third straight year. That's with an offense led by either a. the worst QB I've ever seen (I knew we were in big trouble when he demanded we start to pronounce his last name differently all of the sudden) or b. the most wanna be gangsta immature QB I've ever seen. And let's not even talk about the career ending injury to our best player and the head case the second best player turned out to be.

Still the best 3 year stretch we've had in 15 years. Also beating FSU and the biggest game/victory we've had in forever vs ND.

As I've mentioned and documented during the first 10 games of 2017 our offense was ranked anywhere from 5 to the very high 30's. Guess what? It's no coincidence that as the major injuries to our best players on offense mounted the offense, led by a baseball player, started to falter.

CMR was the best hire for this program and he's still the best option for this program.

Don't be a fan later. Miami will be back and CMR will get us where we want to be.View attachment 72137

Coming from a talent stand point the class is straight, but we really lack the numbers. if we had at least 20 people committed, which would still be less than the top 10 recruiting rankings, but only have 14 and thats really sad.

last year, after week 11, which includes our 2 most recent games at that point which were 40 point wins over ND and UVA, our offense was 38 in ypg.

But there were obvious deficiencies in the offense at that point. The biggest that we could not sustain drives. At the same time were were 38th in ypg, we were 113 in time of possession. And 122 in 3rd down conversion %. All of our offense came from big plays. That is further shown by us being 24th in yards per play at this point.

Richt needed to make changes to the offense so that we could sustain drives. so he doubled down on the simplicity of the scheme.
It helped those secondary stats, we rose to 59 in time of possession (I think the improvement of our defense this year had a lot to do with the increase in this stat as well), and 53 in 3rd down conversion %.

But the simplicity also put a very low ceiling on this offense. The big plays dried up, we fell all the way down to 79 in ypp.

Obviously Richt should have gone the other way, and got more creative. Everyone who closely watches canes football knew that's what was needed to help this offense. But Richt is simply too old school in his beliefs on offense to change. He cant do it. He needs to hire an OC who can. But clearly he wont do that either.

Don't be fooled by that 38 number from last year. That was likely the peek performance from our offense you'll see during Richt's tenure. Its year 4 now, and every DC in the conference knows Richt's offense inside and out.
