WHAT DO You think happened?

Think he’ll be hot commodity in the broadcast booth. Classy guy well spoken etc.

Nah, he's strikes me as a more introverted people person. He's not a gas-bag talking-head type guy. Would love to keep him around the program as a fundraiser.

Blake said "fire your son, hire an OC". Richt said no thanks. Simple as that. Everyone here that bashes Blake and the BOT needs to thank them.

BOT force him out?

Do you think Miami saw what last year brought them $$$. And saw that next year was going to be crap. So now they play aggressive?

I think Mark Richt had a heart-to-heart with his wife, his family and leaned on his faith for a big time decision.

Fact is, he was set to retire three years ago when Georgia let him go—but took the Miami gig because it was his alma mater.

Probably had a five-year timeline and thought he'd be further along entering year four. Instead, year three was his worst as a hard coach since 2010.

The thought of having to gut his staff, give up play calling, dig in harder / work harder for a rebuild—and extending the timeline in doing so—realized it made sense to tap out now and let someone younger and hungrier come in to do that job.

Said it after the game—35-3 was a blessing in disguise as eking out a 20-17 loss to Wisconsin would've have moved the needled. Richt was in over his head—in regards to how much work he thought it would take. Toss in the dissension in the locker room; probably feels the game was getting away from him and wanted to focus his energies on family, faith and missionary work he spoke of years back.

Gave Miami the easy out, too—as this thing was going to be a mess late next season if the Canes were still struggling.

It would never get that bad at bama

Never say never, but I tend to agree with you. Saban is modern day JJ.

Ruthless killer.

However, IF IT DID, I suspect he would have 3-4 years before Bama faithful full on turned into a mob.

I think he knew he needed to make changes but also knew he wouldn’t be happy as a ‘CEO’ type. So he retired.

Holy god maybe there is a god. This loser was going to retire 3 years ago. Only reason he took job at Miami was to give his Son a job
. Pathetic. Thank goodness he is gone now. I'll take literally anyone else. Hire a hockey coach. That's an upgrade

He saw the planes coming

You do know that planes and banners for every game was spoken of here - and just how embarrassing it would be for the University and for Richt himself.

I'd suggest that the BOT and Admin were informed that the same a-holes that flew those embarrassing banners that helped force Golden out were going to be flying again for Richt.

I'm telling you - they're more about image than anything.

I think it was a combination of everything:

1.) The current ineptitude of the team
2.) The fact that things are too far gone in this downward spiral for him to attract the kind of assistants needed for a real turnaround.
3.) His own energy level and will to push through something so difficult
4.) Hating to fire people, especially Jon
5.) Maybe most of all, recruiting. He's come to realize that he and this staff just can't get it done with the current vibe around the program. And if you can't recruit, you'll never turn things around, so you might as well get out before things get much worse.
6.) Given all the above, it's a smart decision and is in the best interest of both the U and his own legacy.

I think Miami’s fanbase is toxic rn..and he stepped down..that’s honestly what I think happened. Fans ran a coach out of town.
Fans ran the coach out of town...

Did the fans hire him?
Did the fans hire his staff?
Did the fans recruit his players?
Did the fans develop his players?
Did the fans fans coach his team?
Was it the fans that got shellacked by Wisconsin in the Pinstripe Bowl?

Well even the AD was shocked by the news..if you really think the **** y’all type on social or here has no affect on anything then it’s like me talking to my 5th graders about the affect of social media..it’s naive to think directly @Mark Richt on Twitter about his fam etc has no effect then your just as naive as a 10 year old..I’m not saying it was the main reason. But the negativity around the program was big. From booing the starting QB at the home opener when he took the field and all that other bull. That’s just reality man

Do you think there's a correlation between performance & the people's reaction?

How do you think people should've reacted to the Wisconsin game?

Oh definitely. I understand the frustration..but it’s when the attacks are personal..there’ should be a line.

Forgot to mention he had no QB to lead team

Richt showed up in Miami thinking the bowden routine was a winning formula. Straw hat, smug attitude, silly grin and hire your son. Didn’t work. So he quit.
