What can we expect from Guidry in year 2?

Let’s not forget Georgia Tech .
They moved the ball 75 yards on 21 seconds with no time outs!
That’s on Guidry, period.Don’t need great DBs or great pass rush to prevent TD.Any decent ( not good) DC in College prevents TD
Remember Rutgers running the ball at will against the D when everyone knew it was coming. Could not game plan to stop it.

It’s big year for Guidry to show he belongs.
anyone who watches football or played it knows to keep everything in front of you in situations like that. Unless Guidry taught them otherwise I don’t see how you can blame him for that.

I speak with someone occasionally who is very plugged in to a very large number of coaches. He could not have been more excited when Miami hired Guidry. Said he is an absolute superstar coordinator. IMO we see some significant improvement this season.

Remember, if the offense is as good as we all feel it's going to be, you don't need to have the #1 defense in the country to have an exceptional football team. You just have to be complementary. Most good teams are somewhat balanced. If the offense really is, say, Top 20 nationally, if we have a Top ~30 defense, the team is going to be really, really good.

You are missing the point. It’s about the last 21 seconds, they had 75 yards to go with no time outs.
Any DC knows you play an umbrella D with 4 DBs at goal line and tell them in no uncertain terms : DO NOT LET ANYBODY GET BEHIND YOU!
Would Saban, Smart, Venebles allow it?
Terrible.

Love Kam but that was the worst thing he could have done is ever letting anyone get past him in that situation… just tackle him and take the flag.

Also it wasn’t a bad game for Guidry when you think how many times he had to defend a short field because TVD was throwing the game away for his bookie with those awful pics

Good stuff. I've seen nothing out of Guidry that concerns me in the least.

I like Guidry - I liked the different looks we had and his scheme kept opposing offenses guessing. We had a few hiccups, but those were mostly players freelancing and getting caught. I suspect that we will see an improvement in year 2 just by reducing how often players freelance and maintain their responsibility.

The Couch play is the one everyone forgets. I have no idea how he didn’t make an interception on that play. He just tripped and stumbled when he went to play the ball. That’s the story of his career here, just not quite good enough to win at an elite level.

The talent at corner shoukd/will be Damari Brown level players. Players of that caliber pick that ball every time.
You and I didn't forget it.
I can see giving up a 15 yard out in that situation, but a 30 yard out??
That ball was in the air a looong time, smh.
When he started stumbling/bumbling he should have just made the tackle. Game over.
Worse case for us, they're attempting a 50 yard Hail Mary with a tick or two left.

If Barrow stays I believe he can make this defense a top 35 defense which is what will be needed if Dawson can deliver a top 15 offense - which should be in sight with health.

True story. Particularly since he works with the safeties. How Kam did what he did is beyond me. He must have known the situation. Someone coached him to do that or someone allowed him to do that.
Nah you gotta use common sense, why would Kam bite on a hitch in that situation. It’s unexplainable imo

It is. Honestly I'm happy to say that play was 100% Kam. Even if he doesn't know why he did it. But at the end of the day that's one of those things Coach should know to be in the ear of players about before the play.

One problem we had on defense (and on offense) was communication. I hope that's something they fix over the summer. We had too many busted plays due to guys either not knowing assignments or not passing off assignments the right way.

I expect a big improvement, but mostly because our d-line is NASTY.

Sure, year 2 of the same system will help. But make no mistake, this years front 7 is WAY better than last.

I think you’ll see more 5-man pressures than last year since he’ll have a better idea about what the DB’s can do.

So an increase in sacks and turnovers, but nothing drastic.

I do expect a dip in run defense, but a material decrease in ppg against P5 opponents.

GT had 175 yards FOR THE ENTIRE GAME before that drive. I don’t know what the school record is for fewest yards allowed in an ACC game, but I’ll bet it was in jeopardy that night. That game was 0.000% on the defense.

The first half of that game for GT:

3 and out
3 and out
4 and out (their only first down came on a penalty)
Interception
3 and out

And the game was 3-0. It should have been 17-0 and there is no kneel down/fumble/cluster****.

Yeah, you can’t let them go 76 yards on the last drive of the game. But the game was over. We ran out the clock, it’s victory formation time, start unbuckling your shoulder pads and blowing kisses at your old lady in the stands, we’re 5-0. Then all of a sudden wait, we gotta go back on the field? That game was 0.0000% on the defense they were absolutely lights out all night except for one drive. GT finishes with 175 yards on 50 plays if Mario just doesn’t make the dumbest coaching decision of all-time.

Guidry and the defense had a couple stinkers. GT wasn’t one of them.
10) !!!!!

The answer to this question is savagery. These opponents have sucked but we’ve given up 26 points and only 188 yards per game. 123 pass yards and 65 rush yards per game. We have 12 sacks 6 TOs in 3 games.

Next week will be an interesting test with their scheme. Although playing that fast is a good way to get off the field fast and tire your own defense out
