****Full Selection Choices for some context****
  • Trust Lvl 10: I still expect 1+ National Championships out of MC and an era of dominance
  • 8-9: Mario will have us competing routinely in the playoffs and winning multiple conference championships before his tenure is over
  • 6-7: Mario will occasionally make CFP and have us near the top of the ACC (including winning a conference championship or two), while maintaining a talented roster. However, we’ll still be left wanting more from our teams and some years, wondering “what-if”.
  • 3-5: Mario might luck his way into relevancy once every four-ish years to prolong his future here, but he’ll rarely have us in the CFP or ACCCG and ultimately be the main reason this team never achieves its full potential.
  • 2-0: I have given up hope and believe Mario must be fired, scratch the whole operation.
First off, I’m not here to pick fights or say the mopes were right. No one has been proven right, and that’s precisely why the gloating and parading of results through less than half a season is stupid and futile. A lot of you look dumb right now - just like people did last year, and the year before that.

Never forget this is the long game, this the war most people knew we signed up for. Highs and lows, massive wins and mind-numbing defeats. And yet, everything still sits in front of us, within reach…albeit with seismic adjustments required.

It’s hard to quantify groups, but I want to gauge the public’s opinion on our Head Coach midway through Year 4. I think the timing is ideal, as we’ve been smacked back to reality…while technically still in control of some preseason expectations + in possession of a talented roster. Obviously the current temperature of the board won’t see it, but I still believe at 11-1…even with no ACCCG appearance, is good enough to at least make the playoff. No margin for error, however. Not one ounce of it - we have to win, and we have to look good doing it.

I’ve seen some interesting comments thrown around in various threads, truthfully on both extremes - from “Mario deserves no blame, he didn’t throw the interceptions tonight” to “fire him”.

If your opinion has changed on Mario, I welcome anyone to expound upon why. If anyone still believes in him to the highest level, fair game to elaborate. I won’t blame you. You want him gone, you think he’s our James Franklin or UGA version of Mark Richt? Fine by me, go for it. How long are you giving Mario before your opinion becomes more solidified? Are you giving him more time at all? Is this year, specifically, your boiling point? Was this game your boiling point?

Genuinely curious where the board sits, especially the manner in which we lost yesterday. I look forward to the responses, appreciate it in advance. Go Canes.

This is an exercise that should've been done when he was hired so we can all look back and see how goofy everyone looks. Because everyone a majority of this site as experts after the fact.

The good ol "I knew he wasn't good watching the tape" or "I knew he wasn't a fit"

My expectations were very low. I expected 1 ACCCG appearance by his 3rd year and 1 conference by his 4th.

He's going to fail to meet that because this team will lose one of SMU or the end of the year cold weather games.

And for the record, this last game isn't on him. You shouldn't even be in the game with a QB who throws 4 picks.

Some fans have to stop looking for the genie in the bottle.. is Mario perfect? … **** NO!
But who the **** is?? .. who would you want? .. then to what, give THAT GUY 6 years to get the program right? .. I’m sticking with Mario cause that man bleeds orange and green and I see what other programs like FSU and UF have at head coach right now!!…. Ohio state fans wanted Ryan Day gone..now he may have a back to back championship team !!

What’s my expectations??… take accountability Mario… which he has done and fixed areas of the team that have been a concern year after year without hesitation. At some we will be a complete team.

It’s better to get knocked down in the 6th round rather than the 12th round, but **** yall ready to throw in the towel??!!

The days of dominance by anyone are over. NIL is here and so is mid level coaching and “kids” are still kids.
Miami could hardly have played worse and still almost tied it up. Couple that with two weeks to prepare for one of the best coaches out there and…**** happens.
JFC Franklin went from top two to fired in three weeks!

This has been the trend now for a Mario coached team since he’s been at Miami….We end the FSU game flat, go into the bye week and come out….flat…It’s no longer a surprise to me. But, very bothersome. The players take on the personality of the head coach. 159 yards rushing in the last two games is no bueno. Also, last night was the 10th loss by Cristobal at Miami after coming in as the favorite. That’s crazy work right there.

Yup for sure, wish I would’ve polled the initial hire.

Great poll. I chose 6-7, but that's because there wasn't an option to split the difference between that choice and 8-9. Since we just lost at home as double digit favorites Coach gets the lower rate.

I think Mario is a lot like Franklin at PSU. Different kryptonite (Franklin can't beat very good/elite teams, Mario drops games to teams he should beat by at least 2 scores, like UL last night). I thought PSU made a huge mistake firing him, fwiw.

I still expect this team to make the playoff this year. Nothing has changed to me. I didn't expect us to go undefeated. The particular way your team ends up losing always stings, especially within 48 hours of the game. If we fall apart the rest of the way and end up 9-3 or worse, then the 3-5 option is where I would be at after the season.

**** the bed to end the year, and the top 5 rankings in years 3&4 will likely be the high water mark of Mario's time here. I'm still slightly more optimistic than not that we can improve enough to make the playoff this year, but this morning does suck a lot.

Astounding to be honest, alarming as well. No one has lost more games as a double-digit favorite since 2022 than Mario (or is tied for the most, depending on which closing line data you pull from). Consensus closing line data would say most, so I’ll go with that to avoid bias from just one sportsbook.

To me, I feel as if we’re playing catch-up each season on a particular issue a lot of us can see months out. Year 1 it was pretty much everything, so that’s a pass (except for Middle Tennessee). Year 2 it was fix the offense, so we did. Year 3 it was fix the defense…but a lot of us were complaining about waiting so long to grab a QB and losing out on a plethora of portal WRs. Well we’ve seen instances in multiple games now where the WRs fail to get consistent separation. Imagine if we didn’t have a star in Toney…

Most disappointing group to me, however, is OL. Specifically, the run game and run concepts.

You can spin it however you want, but if we’re blaming Dawson - to me that is just an extension of the man in charge.

that'd also mean OC1.0, OC2.0, DC1.0, DC2.0 all busts and we're a year (or maybe just the 2nd half of this one) away from adding Hetherman to the list.
