All this time I thought Saban was turning 3 stars into heismans and national champions. Talk about doing more with less 🙄.

Those 3 stars Saban has have a plethora of 4-5 star supporting cast + a 5 star coaching tree along with the most important of all a 5 star organization.

Sarcasm takes a higher level of intellect to grasp. It will finally hit you when you plop down on the toilet in the morning

it’s a myth that all 5 stars pan out of fit your culture or scheme. We’ve gotten highly rated kids over the past 15 years and consistently missed on our evals. you say what you say about our recent 5*s but we weren’t right on lingard or pope in ‘18. a quick check of rivals shows reggie youngblood, craog
cooper, arthur brown, marcus forston, eay ray anderson, seantrel, tracy howard and chad thomas as 5*s. you think we evaluated them at an alabama rate of success?

It’s actually a LOT harder than people realize to evaluate at alabama because they can pick anyone ... so more choices and they get it right very impressively, imo.

the high ratings are a distraction. they’re still picking well.
I agree that all 5-stars don't pan out.
No one was comparing our evaluations to theirs.
Alabama's eval's are very good for who they are.

There was a list posted of that class.
"Top Notch" evaluators are supposed to hit at a high rate on there second and third tier recruits, no?
I didn't see that in the bottom 2/3 of that '17 class.

Question:
When was the last time Alabama did not offer the #1 player in a position of need?

Evaluate a 5-star. 7 of them.
And 3 high 4-star guys.
Think about that.

I'm looking the bottom 18 and I see Mac Jones.

No one can dispute that they recruit.

I hope our coaches were right in their evaluation of Williams and Taylor.
The ratio is as good as ever only because when you recruit multiple guys at the same position you know not all will ball out. You just can’t hit on all of them. You gotta have depth players also

I don't know how to judge the bottom half of their class, because those guys are playing behind the top half plus the top half of the classes sandwiched around them. there's always going to be kids who get eaten by the depth chart. i think the way to judge a class is how many difference makers it generates, and how high-level those guys are once you make the first cut. and their class obviously generated a ton.

if your point is on evals, i guess i'd focus on their hit rate on the top kids they sign and their consistency over time as evidence they know what they're aiming at and achieve it. obviously they're picking from a bigger pool than anyone else.

Bama has 34 former HC on staff making $10 a year, living in a dump, and we should be surprised they're able to recruit well top to bottom...

Mac Jones (3 star) was in contention for the Heisman and just won the natty bruh. Plus they sending walk on 2 stars to the NFL.

Good thing is, we're doing it too. Couple hits for us being GR and Zion Nelson. We just need to hit more often. Or miss less often? Haha
