What’s up with Alabama? 48th ranked recruiting class

I don’t expect Alabama to finish 60th in recruiting but when 89 of the top 100 prospects are already committed before July, I don’t see them making some kind of crazy 55 spot jump in the rankings. They were able to finish strong last year but they had locked up multiple 5 star players before going on their late run in the rankings. Right now, they have zero five star players and only one player in the top 35.

They’ll grab a decent share of the leftover good players and stock up on three stars again to give their class an overall decent score but they’re not finishing top 5. The elite players are almost all committed.
 
They are getting slaughtered right now. Two kids they were crystal balled to get below.





Never wanna be the guy following the guy. Still believe DeBoer is an elite coach however they were ready to run him outta there last year if he lost to Auburn or OU in the playoffs.

I don’t believe he will get fired however I envision him accepting another job like Bill Curry if he doesn’t go 11-1 or 12-0. 10-2 would be borderline and dependent on his postseason. His schedule isn’t that bad this year though so could see him pushing past this dreadful class. All his extension did was double the buyout payment w/ a slight raise; that’s it.


I think they could live with top 15 instead of top 5 classes but they won’t tolerate battling UCF for edge recruits; idc what their AD says

Coaches that get extended after a surprisingly good season when their stock is high and then immediately plummet back down to earth get fired quickly. His stock wasn't high but his agent floated the idea that State Pen was interested and parlayed it into an extension.

Here's his buyout figures.
2026: $67.5 million
2027: $56.25 million
2028: $45 million
2029: $33.75 million
2030: $22.5 million
2031+: $11.25 million

He's there at least 3 more years unless he chooses to leave on his own.

Penn State and Michigan were interested and in fact waited on the opportunity to pounce if he were to have lost to Auburn or OU. Alabama would have made a late run at Kiffin. It’s even worse now that two more former Saban assistants (Tosh Lupoi and Pete Golding) are out recruiting DeBoer in addition to Auburn who was dormant for the last five years; and Cignetti’s (another former Saban assistant) emergence on the national stage.

He isn’t going to get fired. He’s way too good for that, their roster is too good for that, and that’d be way too expensive for Bama. Alabama has a lot of money however it’s not endless—nowhere has endless money. They’d gladly take ten million — his buyout if another college hires him — and start anew.

The extension just doubled his buyout, if hired elsewhere, and gave him a 2M raise which keeps him in the top 5 for HC salaries; a status symbol Alabama would like to keep. It’s only a 2 year extension to replace the two years he already completed. It is in no way a vote of confience.

If he goes 9-3 or worse, they’ll just pressure him to accept another job like Bill Curry or Ray Perkins. 10-2 would be a borderline case.

The pressure of Tuscaloosa is insane and defies description. This is going back a century. Wallace Wade won three national championships and still resigned to take another job. Saban didn’t ponder becoming Texas’ head coach for a raise. That was real, and that was after he won two national championships within five seasons.

LOL at thinking he will be there for three more years no matter what. DeBoer needs to win a national championship for that fanbase to respect him. Alabama coaches don’t make it to a fifth year unless they’ve won a title. That has happened one time 75 years ago, and that guy had some goodwill as a former Alabama assistant who won a NC as an assistant.

They haven’t started this bad since prior to Saban . If you can’t see a down slide you’re blind . Go look at there class last year at this time

I already responded in this exact thread that last year they had 5 total commits going into June.

But I know facts are hard.

They’re going to take a small class so all these 3 stars filling it up is, admittedly, surprising.

Them winding up in the Load More section would make my year.
